Adults: Administer 100mg (potency) of cefpodoxime orally twice daily after meals. If the condition is severe or the response is considered insufficient, administer 200mg (potency) orally twice daily after meals. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to age, symptoms, etc.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients who have previously experienced a severe allergic reaction such as shock due to it. Additionally, as this medication contains lactose, patients with galactose intolerance, lactose deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption due to genetic issues should avoid using it. It is generally advised not to administer this medication to patients who have had hypersensitivity reactions to this drug or cephalosporin antibiotics, unless in exceptional cases, and caution should be exercised with patients allergic to penicillin antibiotics. There is also a need for caution in patients prone to allergic reactions such as bronchial asthma, skin rash, or urticaria. Patients with severely impaired renal function should have their dosage adjusted and monitored since this medication is excreted through the kidneys. Patients who have difficulty with oral administration, elderly patients, or those in poor general condition should be closely monitored as symptoms of vitamin K deficiency may occur. This medication can occasionally provoke severe allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis or shock; if symptoms such as discomfort, dizziness, or dyspnea occur during administration, it should be stopped immediately. Should any hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash, itching, or fever occur, administration should be ceased and appropriate treatment obtained. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as pseudomembranous colitis or abdominal pain and diarrhea may occur rarely; thus, if symptoms are severe, administration should be discontinued. In cases of respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, or dyspnea, the medication should be stopped and steroid treatment undertaken if necessary. Blood tests may show leukopenia or platelet abnormalities, thus regular blood checks are necessary for prolonged administration. In the nervous system, if renal function is not adjusted, consciousness disturbance or seizures may occur. In cases of serious adverse skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis, administration must be discontinued immediately. Liver function tests may show elevated results, necessitating regular checks. Increased risk of renal impairment may require discontinuation and treatment if hematuria or elevated blood creatinine levels occur. Symptoms of dysbiosis, such as stomatitis or candidiasis, may rarely arise. Deficiency symptoms of vitamins K and B may occur, thus monitoring for bleeding tendencies, stomatitis, or loss of appetite is recommended. Rarely, symptoms such as headache, edema, or malaise may occur. To prevent antibiotic resistance, sensitivity tests should be performed, and it should only be used for the minimum necessary duration. To prevent allergic reactions, thorough patient history and skin reaction tests are advisable. Dizziness may occur while taking this medication, so caution is advised during driving or equipment operation. For administration exceeding 10 days, blood tests to monitor white blood cell count must be performed. In patients with poor renal function, failure to adjust dosage may lead to seizures; therefore, caution is necessary. Serious skin adverse reactions have been reported, so patients should be sufficiently informed about symptoms and observed; immediate discontinuation is necessary upon the appearance of abnormal symptoms. Caution is required when used with diuretics or aminoglycoside antibiotics due to the increased risk of renal toxicity. When combined with probenecid, excretion of this medication may be delayed, increasing blood concentration, necessitating caution. Co-administration with gastrointestinal medications may affect absorption; thus, it is essential to verify other medications being taken. The safety of this medication during pregnancy is not established, so women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use it when the benefits outweigh the risks. This medication may be excreted in breast milk, so nursing women should discontinue breastfeeding. The safety of use in children, especially in newborns or premature infants, or infants under 2 months of age, is not established; caution is advised. Elderly patients may have increased risk of adverse reactions due to declining bodily function, so dosage and intervals should be adjusted and closely monitored. This medication can affect test results, so caution is needed in interpreting test results.
