Treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunct for partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia
This medication is used to relieve peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also used as an adjunct therapy for partial seizures with or without secondary generalized symptoms in epilepsy patients. Additionally, it helps improve symptoms of fibromyalgia. It is effectively used for various nerve-related disorders and symptoms.
This medication is administered orally twice a day, regardless of meals, with the total daily dose divided into two doses. 1. Neuropathic pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: Start with a dose of 150 mg per day, which can be increased to 300 mg per day after 3 to 7 days. If necessary, it can be further increased to a maximum of 600 mg per day at intervals of 7 days. - Central neuropathic pain: Start with a dose of 150 mg per day, which can be increased to 300 mg per day after one week.
The safety and efficacy data for children under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12 to 17 years is insufficient, so administration is not recommended.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so patients taking it should be closely monitored for signs of depression, mood changes, or unusual behaviors. Do not take this medication if you are allergic to any of its components or if you have specific genetic lactose intolerance disorders. Diabetic patients should be cautious as weight gain after taking this drug may require adjustments in their blood sugar control medications. If you experience symptoms of angioedema, such as swelling of the face or around the mouth, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Older adults may experience increased dizziness or drowsiness while taking this medication, raising the risk of falls. This medication may cause blurred vision or vision changes; if these symptoms occur, you may discontinue the medication. Stopping this medication suddenly may cause withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety, so it should be gradually discontinued after consulting your healthcare provider. Patients with a history of substance abuse are at higher risk for misuse of this medication, so precautions are necessary when taking it. Patients with impaired kidney function may require dosage adjustments, and those with heart disease should also take it carefully. Caution is advised when combining this medication with opioid analgesics due to an increased risk of central nervous system depression. In early pregnancy, there may be a risk of fetal malformation, so pregnant women should avoid this medication or make careful decisions about its use, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraceptive methods. Breastfeeding women should decide carefully about taking this medication as it can be passed through breast milk. This medication may cause dizziness and drowsiness, so caution is needed while driving or operating dangerous machinery. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, depression, and seizures may occur, and treatment such as dialysis may be necessary if needed. Keep this medication out of the reach of children and avoid transferring it to another container, as this may lead to accidents or deterioration in quality.
