Improvement of essential hypertension
Essential hypertension is a condition where blood pressure is consistently high without a specific cause. This medication lowers blood pressure and dilates blood vessels, reducing the burden on the heart. Regular use can facilitate blood pressure control and aid in the prevention of complications. Dosage instructions will be provided according to the patient's condition, and it is important to treat this condition alongside lifestyle modifications. Regular blood pressure monitoring while continuously taking this medication can lead to positive outcomes. This medication is used for the treatment of essential hypertension.
The recommended initial dosage is 10 mg once daily, regardless of meals. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, the dose may be increased to 20 mg once daily. The maximum dosage can be increased up to 40 mg once daily. The blood pressure-lowering effect is observed within 2 weeks after initiating treatment, with maximum effectiveness seen after approximately 8 weeks. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, it may be used in combination with thiazide diuretics. It is advisable to take this medication at the same time every day if possible.
This medication can cause serious harm or death to the fetus or newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Individuals with allergies to any components of this medication, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients undergoing kidney dialysis, patients with severe liver impairment, patients with obstructive biliary disorders, patients with lactose intolerance, specific diabetic patients, and patients with moderate to severe renal impairment should not use this medication. Special caution is required when using this medicine in patients with reduced blood volume or sodium, severe heart failure, weak renal function, renovascular hypertension, those at risk for hyperkalemia, those with aortic or mitral stenosis, and patients with primary aldosteronism, and their conditions should be closely monitored at the start of treatment. Dizziness may occur while taking this medication; therefore, it is advisable to avoid hazardous activities such as operating dangerous machinery or driving. Clinical trials and post-marketing studies have shown this medication to be relatively safe, but side effects such as dizziness, headache, back pain, indigestion, chest pain, peripheral edema, and hyperkalemia may occur. Chronic diarrhea and weight loss resembling chronic malabsorption syndrome may occur, so if these symptoms arise during treatment, the patient should consult a physician immediately. Taking this medication together with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements can dangerously elevate serum potassium levels, so regular blood tests to monitor potassium levels are necessary in such cases. When administered with other antihypertensive agents, the blood pressure-lowering effect may increase, so caution is required, and it is not recommended to use lithium preparations concomitantly due to the risk of lithium toxicity. Combining this medication with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may worsen renal function, so renal function should be monitored regularly, and adequate hydration is essential. During pregnancy, there is a severe risk to the fetus, so this medication should not be taken if planning to become pregnant or during pregnancy, and nursing mothers should also discontinue breastfeeding or consult a doctor if taking this medication, as adverse reactions may occur in infants. Safety in children has not been established, and elderly patients may require dose adjustments due to increased drug concentrations in the body. Overdose may lead to hypotension, palpitations, bradycardia, etc., and appropriate treatment is required depending on the symptoms.
