It is used for respiratory infections such as acute and chronic bronchitis, lobar pneumonia, empyema, lung abscess, tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media. It is also effective for urinary infections such as cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis, pelvic infections, and sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea. This drug acts against various resistant bacteria, including those producing beta-lactamase, thereby helping to improve various bacterial infections.

How to take

Adult dose

For adults with severe infections and respiratory infections, take 2 tablets once, twice a day every 12 hours orally. Patients with renal impairment may have their dosage reduced depending on the level of kidney function. Severe renal impairment patients (with a glomerular filtration rate of less than 30 mL/min) should not take this medication.

Precautions

This drug should not be administered to patients with allergies or hypersensitivity reactions to beta-lactam drugs such as penicillin or cephalosporins. Special caution should be taken for those with a history of severe allergic reactions like anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, or shock. Patients with viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia may experience a higher risk of skin rashes while taking this medication; therefore, caution is advised. Additionally, patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice due to this drug or penicillin-class drugs should avoid use due to the risk of recurrence. Patients with impaired liver function or moderate to severe renal impairment should use the drug cautiously, as it may remain in the body longer and increase the risk of side effects. Those who have allergic tendencies or frequently experience symptoms like asthma, skin rashes, or hives should also be careful. Patients with gastrointestinal issues such as vomiting or diarrhea, elderly patients, or those with poor general health should be closely monitored due to the risk of bleeding from vitamin K deficiency. If symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, or bloody stools occur during the use of this medication, it may indicate serious intestinal conditions such as pseudomembranous colitis, and immediate discontinuation and medical consultation are required. Monitoring liver function during and after treatment is crucial, as symptoms of liver dysfunction may occur. Rarely, severe allergic reactions such as skin rashes, hives, or anaphylactic shock may occur, and if such symptoms arise, immediate discontinuation and adherence to medical guidance are necessary. Long-term use may necessitate regular blood tests due to potential abnormalities such as leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, or anemia. Pregnant women and those who may become pregnant are advised to avoid this drug, especially during the first three months; nursing mothers should be cautious as their babies may experience side effects like diarrhea or skin rashes. This medication is not recommended for children, especially those under 12 years old or weighing less than 40 kg. Elderly patients are at higher risk of bleeding due to impaired renal and liver function as well as vitamin K deficiency, so dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted, and their condition should be closely observed. This medication may interact with other drugs; caution is particularly needed when taken with anticoagulants, probenecid, allopurinol, or disulfiram. If taking oral contraceptives, consult a doctor, as the effectiveness may be reduced. In case of overdose, symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, drowsiness, or convulsions may occur; immediate discontinuation and medical treatment are required. If necessary, blood dialysis can be performed to remove the drug. This drug should be stored in a dry place at temperatures below 25 degrees Celsius, and it is essential to consult a doctor immediately if any adverse reactions occur during use.
