Treatment of various bacterial infections, including respiratory infections and urinary tract infections
This medication is used to treat various infections caused by bacteria. It is effective for respiratory infections excluding acute bronchitis and pneumonia occurring in the community. It is also used for infections of the ear, nose, throat, bacterial prostatitis, urinary tract infections, gonococcal cervicitis, and urethritis. It is applicable for gastrointestinal infections, infections of the bile duct, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, gynecological infections, peritonitis, Bartholin's cysts, tendinitis, and acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. However, it is recommended to use it only when there are no other treatment options for certain mild infections. This drug carries a risk of serious adverse reactions and is used to improve various infections.
Typically, adults take 250 ~ 500 mg of ciprofloxacin per dose, administered orally twice a day between meals. In cases of severe complicated infections, the dose can be increased to 750 mg, administered twice daily. For acute infections, treatment normally lasts 5 ~ 10 days, and at least 3 additional days after symptoms resolve. For patients with kidney impairment, the dose should be adjusted according to creatinine clearance.
This drug may cause serious tendon-related side effects, such as tendinitis or tendon rupture. If such symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Peripheral neuropathy and central nervous system abnormal symptoms have also been reported; caution is needed. Patients with myasthenia gravis should avoid this drug as it may worsen symptoms. This medication is prescribed only for specific bacterial infections and is recommended to be administered only when no other treatment options are available. Elderly patients, patients with reduced kidney function, transplant recipients, and those on corticosteroid therapy are at an increased risk of tendon rupture and should be cautious. Co-administration with corticosteroids should be avoided, and if tendon pain or inflammation occurs, rest and limitation of activity are required. Patients with epilepsy or a history of seizures may have an increased risk of seizures and should use this drug with caution. This medication should not be used during pregnancy or lactation, or in growing adolescents under 18 years of age. Patients with drug hypersensitivity or those who have previously experienced tendinitis or tendon rupture with similar drugs should also avoid use. Additionally, serious side effects may occur when combined with certain medications, so it is essential to inform healthcare professionals of any current medications. During the course of treatment with this drug, it is important to avoid strong sunlight or ultraviolet exposure, and if any photosensitivity reactions occur, treatment should be discontinued immediately. Diabetic patients with difficulty controlling blood sugar should carefully monitor for blood sugar changes and seek immediate treatment for symptoms of hypoglycemia. Caution should be taken while driving or operating machinery, as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. If severe diarrhea or abdominal pain develops during treatment, it may indicate the possibility of pseudomembranous colitis; consult a healthcare professional immediately. In cases of overdose, kidney function may be affected, so adherence to the prescribed dose is crucial, and renal function tests should be conducted as needed. This drug is not recommended for children as its safety has not been established. Elderly patients may require dosage adjustments due to potential increases in drug concentration from reduced kidney function. Medications should be stored in a tightly sealed container to avoid exposure to air and at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius to maintain efficacy.
