This medication is used for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also effective for the adjunctive treatment of partial seizures in patients with epilepsy. It is used to alleviate symptoms of fibromyalgia and helps in managing various neurological disorders and pain control. Therefore, it is used for the treatment of neuropathic pain, certain symptoms of epilepsy, and fibromyalgia.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered orally divided into two doses per day, without regard to meals. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose is 150 mg per day; after 3 to 7 days, the dose may be increased to 300 mg per day, with a maximum of 600 mg allowed at 7-day intervals if necessary. - Central Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose is 150 mg per day; after 1 week, the dose may be increased to 300 mg per day.

Child dose

Precautions

This medication can increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior; therefore, if mood changes or symptoms of depression occur during use, it should be reported to a healthcare professional immediately. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or lactose intolerance should not take it. Diabetic patients may need to adjust the dosage of blood glucose control medications due to weight gain after taking this medication. If symptoms of angioedema appear, this medication should be discontinued immediately. Elderly patients need to be careful due to an increased risk of accidents from dizziness or drowsiness, especially during the initial phase of treatment. Due to the risk of drug abuse, patients with a history of drug abuse should take this medication particularly cautiously. Patients with reduced kidney function may need dosage adjustments for this medication. Patients with heart disease should be cautious when taking this medication. Caution is advised when taking this medication with other drugs that have central nervous system depressant effects, due to the risk of respiratory suppression. In early pregnancy, there is a risk of fetal malformation; therefore, women of childbearing age should use effective contraceptive methods, and this medication should preferably not be administered during pregnancy. Breastfeeding women should avoid breastfeeding or consult a healthcare professional, as this medication is excreted in breast milk. This medication can cause dizziness and drowsiness, necessitating caution when driving or operating hazardous machinery.
