Precautions

This medication should not be mixed or administered simultaneously with solutions or drugs containing calcium. Especially in neonates, if this medication comes into contact with calcium, it may form a precipitate and cause serious side effects, thus it must not be administered. Patients with allergies to this medication or a history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillin antibiotics should not use it. Moreover, neonates with issues related to bilirubin binding, such as those with jaundice, hypoalbuminemia, or acidosis, may be at risk if this medication is given. Those with a past history of drug allergies or individuals prone to allergic symptoms such as asthma, rashes, and urticaria should use this drug cautiously. Patients with severely impaired kidney function may have prolonged blood concentration of this medication, necessitating dosage adjustments. Common side effects upon administration may include eosinophilia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, diarrhea, rashes, increased liver enzyme levels, and so on. Rarely, severe allergic reactions, pseudomembranous colitis, interstitial pneumonia, severe skin reactions, and acute renal failure may occur, and symptoms should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately. This medication should be used for the prescribed duration only, determined by susceptibility testing to prevent antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and hypersensitivity should be assessed before administration. During treatment, regular monitoring of liver function, kidney function, and blood tests is essential. There is no specific antidote for overdose, so symptomatic treatment is needed, and if dizziness or similar symptoms occur during the course of treatment, driving or operating machinery should be avoided. Pregnant or nursing individuals should use this medication with caution due to uncertainty regarding its safety, and it should not be administered to neonates or premature infants due to the risk of bilirubin encephalopathy. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, special caution is warranted, especially when used with diuretics, aminoglycoside antibiotics, or vitamin K antagonists. It should always be administered separately from calcium-containing solutions and must not share the same injection port.
