This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. However, it can cause serious side effects such as tendinitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system side effects, and exacerbation of myasthenia gravis. If these symptoms occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and it is not safe to use in patients with severe myasthenia gravis. Additionally, this medication may increase the risk of tendon rupture in elderly patients or in those with decreased renal function, and when taken in conjunction with corticosteroids, caution is warranted. Activities involving overexertion or physical strain should be avoided until tendinitis or tendon rupture is definitively diagnosed. This medication should not be administered to specific patient populations, including those with allergic predisposition, pregnant or breastfeeding women, adolescents under 18, and patients with epilepsy. Furthermore, patients with renal or central nervous system diseases, the elderly, and those with diabetes should be administered the drug cautiously, monitoring blood glucose levels carefully. During administration, it is essential to closely observe for severe allergic reactions, neuropsychiatric symptoms, cardiac arrhythmias, liver and kidney dysfunctions, hematological abnormalities, gastrointestinal disturbances, musculoskeletal issues, and skin reactions. Immediate discontinuation and consultation with a physician are necessary if severe skin reactions, dyspnea, acute hepatitis, or rhabdomyolysis occurs. This medication may interact with other drugs, so care is needed when taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antacids, iron supplements, calcium supplements, theophylline, and warfarin simultaneously. It is advisable not to take certain medications within 2 hours before or after this medication, and to monitor coagulation status and blood glucose levels closely. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication, and especially while breastfeeding, it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding. Safety has not been established in growing children or adolescents, thus, it is not prescribed for them. In elderly patients, drug concentrations may increase due to renal function decline, so the dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted with caution. Moreover, there is an increased risk of hepatotoxicity and aortic aneurysm or dissection in elderly patients. In case of overdose, central nervous system symptoms and cardiac conduction anomalies may occur, requiring immediate medical attention and appropriate treatment, as blood dialysis or peritoneal dialysis do not effectively remove this drug. Finally, during the medication period, avoid unnecessary strong sunlight or artificial UV exposure, and be cautious when driving or operating machinery if symptoms such as dizziness or drowsiness occur.
