Treatment of infections in the respiratory system (bronchitis, pneumonia) and urogenital system (cystitis, gonorrhea)
This medication is effective against various kinds of bacteria and is used to treat respiratory diseases such as acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, empyema, lung abscess, tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media. It is also effective in treating urinary tract infections, pelvic infections, and gonorrhea such as cystitis, urethritis, and pyelonephritis. It is widely used in the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections, boils and abscesses, wound infections, osteomyelitis, and dental infections. It plays an important role in effectively aiding the recovery of patients from a variety of infectious diseases.
For adults and children aged 12 or older or weighing 40 kg or more, administer Amoxicillin/Clavulanate Potassium at 250 mg/125 mg orally three times daily every 8 hours. In severe and respiratory infections, it may be increased to 500 mg/125 mg per dose. In cases of renal impairment, dosage should be adjusted according to the creatinine clearance rate, as follows: for 10 to 30 mL/min, 250 to 500 mg orally every 12 hours.
For adults and children aged 12 or older or weighing 40 kg or more, administer Amoxicillin/Clavulanate Potassium at 250 mg/125 mg orally three times daily every 8 hours. In severe and respiratory infections, dosage may be increased.
This drug is a beta-lactam antibiotic belonging to the penicillin group. This drug should not be used in patients who have had hypersensitivity reactions to the ingredients or who are allergic to penicillin or cephalosporin drugs. Special caution is necessary for patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia as the risk of rash is higher. Additionally, patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice should avoid using this medication as symptoms may recur. Patients with poor liver function or moderate to severe kidney dysfunction may experience elevated drug concentrations, so administration intervals should be controlled, or the drug should be used cautiously. Patients with allergies, those who have difficulty in oral consumption, elderly patients, or those in poor general health also need to be cautious. This drug may affect the gastrointestinal tract, leading to symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Especially, serious intestinal inflammation like pseudomembranous colitis may occur, so if abdominal pain or severe diarrhea appears, the use of the medication should be immediately stopped, and medical advice should be sought. Rarely, abnormal liver function tests, skin rashes, hives, severe allergic reactions may occur, so any unusual symptoms should be discussed with healthcare professionals immediately. The risk of resistant bacteria may increase with long-term use of this drug, so it is advisable to use it for the minimum necessary duration. In cases of a history of hypersensitivity reactions to penicillin antibiotics, severe allergic reactions may occur, so patients should be closely monitored after administration, and preparations should be made for emergencies. If diarrhea or abdominal pain occurs during antibiotic use, the possibility of pseudomembranous colitis should be immediately reported to healthcare professionals, and appropriate treatment should be obtained. Patients with impaired liver and kidney function require regular monitoring, and dosage may need to be adjusted when administering the drug. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this drug with caution and avoid its use during the first three months of pregnancy for safety. If nursing mothers take this drug, it may be transmitted to the baby through breast milk, so usage should be discontinued if adverse reactions appear in the baby. It is not recommended for children under 12 years of age or weighing less than 40 kg. Elderly patients have decreased bodily functions, so they may more easily show bleeding tendencies or adverse reactions, so the dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted and closely monitored. This drug may interact with other medications, so it is essential to inform healthcare professionals of any other medications being taken, particularly when used with anticoagulants, anti-inflammatory drugs, or other antibiotics. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms, kidney function abnormalities, and central nervous system disturbances may occur, so immediate medical assistance should be sought. This drug should be stored in a sealed container in a dry place at or below 25 degrees Celsius to maintain its effectiveness.
