Improvement of acute and chronic bronchitis and pneumonia (respiratory infection) and urinary tract infection
This medication is effective for the treatment of various bacterial infections. It is used for respiratory infections such as acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, and empyema, as well as urinary tract infections like cystitis, urethritis, and pyelonephritis. It is also beneficial for skin and soft tissue infections such as pelvic inflammatory disease, gonorrhea, abscess, soft tissue infections, and wound infections. It is applicable for the treatment of osteomyelitis and dental infections, supporting the patient's recovery. In summary, this medication is used to treat bacterial infections in various areas including respiratory, urinary, skin, and dental infections.
Adults and children aged 12 and older or weighing 40 kg and above should take amoxicillin/potassium clavulanate at a dosage of 250 mg/125 mg once every 8 hours orally. In the case of severe and respiratory infections, the dose may be increased to 500 mg/125 mg. For patients with kidney impairment, the dosage should be adjusted based on creatinine clearance. - For patients with creatinine clearance of 30 mL/min or greater: no dosage adjustment is necessary
Children aged 12 and older or weighing 40 kg and above should follow the same administration as adults. Children with kidney impairment should also have their doses reduced accordingly.
This medication is a beta-lactam antibiotic and should not be administered to patients with an allergy to penicillins or cephalosporins. Special caution is warranted in patients with a history of hypersensitivity, as serious allergic reactions may occur. Patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia are at a higher risk of rash, and the use of this medication should be avoided. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function should use this medication with caution, adjusting dosage and administration intervals as necessary. Allergic individuals, elderly patients, or those with poor nutritional status may be prone to vitamin deficiency or bleeding tendencies, so caution is advised. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting may occur, and if severe diarrhea or bloody stools develop, the use of this medication should be stopped immediately. Liver function abnormalities may occur infrequently; hence, regular liver function tests are required during long-term use. Skin rashes, itching, and in severe cases, serious skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome may develop, requiring immediate discontinuation and consultation with a physician. Blood-related adverse reactions such as leukopenia and anemia have been reported, necessitating regular blood tests. Central nervous system symptoms such as anxiety, drowsiness, and seizures may rarely occur; thus, vigilance is necessary if such symptoms arise. As this medication is excreted via the kidneys, dosage adjustment is necessary in patients with reduced kidney function, and observation is required as acute renal failure and other kidney abnormalities may develop. There may be interactions with other medications, so especially patients taking anticoagulants, anti-inflammatory drugs, or oral contraceptives should inform their doctor or pharmacist and exercise caution. During pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, administration should be avoided, and breastfeeding women should discontinue if adverse reactions occur in infants. It is not recommended for children under 12 years of age or weighing less than 40 kg. Elderly patients may exhibit adverse reactions more readily due to decreased physiological functions; therefore, dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted accordingly. In case of overdose, symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and seizures may occur, necessitating immediate notification to medical staff. This medication should be stored in a dry place below 25 degrees Celsius and used according to the prescribed duration and dosage.
Hives, severe swelling (angioedema), chest tightness, shortness of breath, cold sweat, pallor, anaphylaxis, mucocutaneous epidermal necrolysis (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), shock, severe rash accompanied by high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mucous membranes of the mouth/eyes, difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory distress with coughing and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), severe generalized fatigue, sudden and severe headaches, lightning-like pain
Diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis, dyspepsia, stomatitis, gastritis, glossitis, black hairy tongue, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, abdominal pain, abdominal bloating, constipation, colonic pain, acid reflux, soft stools, dry mouth, candidiasis, antibiotic-induced colitis, elevations of AST/ALT/ALP/LDH/serum bilirubin, hepatitis, rarely, cholestatic jaundice, itching, erythema multiforme, skin rash, serum sickness, hypersensitivity vasculitis, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis
