Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals who have experienced severe allergic reactions or shock due to this medication should not take it. Additionally, individuals allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics should also avoid this medication. This medication contains lactose, and it should not be administered to patients with genetic lactose intolerance or enzyme deficiencies related to lactose. There are also patients who need to use this medication with caution. Patients who have shown allergic reactions to this medication or similar antibiotics in the past should be particularly careful. Individuals allergic to penicillin antibiotics should also be cautious. Those with a history of allergy symptoms such as asthma or skin rashes should monitor their conditions closely. Patients with severely impaired kidney function may need dosage and interval adjustments due to potential increases in drug concentration. Patients who are unable to take medications orally, those receiving parenteral nutrition, the elderly, and those with poor general health conditions should be monitored closely for possible vitamin K deficiency symptoms. This medication contains a dye called Yellow No. 5, so individuals allergic to this component should be cautious. During the use of this medication, various side effects may occur. Rarely, serious allergic reactions such as severe shock or anaphylaxis may manifest, so careful observation is required. If hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash, itching, or fever develop, treatment should be stopped immediately. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting; particularly, if severe diarrhea persists, serious conditions like pseudomembranous colitis may develop, so immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. Respiratory symptoms such as cough, breathing difficulties, and interstitial pneumonia may occur rarely. Hematology tests may show abnormalities such as granulocytopenia, hemolytic anemia, and thrombocytopenia. In the central nervous system, seizures have been reported, so caution is advised. Rarely, severe skin reactions such as toxic epidermal necrolysis or Stevens-Johnson syndrome may occur. Liver dysfunction or acute renal failure may also manifest rarely, necessitating regular examination. Other reported symptoms include stomatitis, candidiasis, vitamin deficiency symptoms, headaches, and dizziness. When using this medication, sensitivity tests should be conducted to prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria, and it should only be administered for the minimum necessary duration. Patient history should be thoroughly checked to prevent allergic reactions. The biological activity of capsules and suspension forms of the drug may differ, so care should be taken when substituting one for the other. In patients with reduced kidney function, dosage adjustment is very important, and treatment should be stopped immediately if seizures occur. This medication may interact with other drugs, so caution is necessary. In particular, careful monitoring is needed when used with warfarin due to an increased risk of bleeding. It may also elevate the serum concentration of carbamazepine, and when used in combination with other nephrotoxic drugs, kidney function should be closely observed. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks, as its safety has not been established. It is also advisable to avoid breastfeeding during medication use. The safety of this medication in neonates, premature infants, and infants under 6 months has not been confirmed, so caution is required for use. The elderly may have reduced bodily functions, making them more susceptible to adverse reactions, so dosage and intervals should be carefully adjusted. Particular care should be taken due to the risk of bleeding related to vitamin K deficiency. This medication may affect certain clinical tests, so caution is necessary in interpreting test results. For example, false-positive results may occur in urine glucose tests, and positive responses may arise in direct Coombs tests. The suspension form of this medication should not be stored for more than 2 weeks after preparation, and care should be taken not to leave the powder mixed with milk or juice unattended. Lastly, in animal studies, high-dose administration has been reported to inhibit spermatogenesis, so care is needed for prolonged high-dose use.
