Adult dose
Adults: For the treatment of HIV-1 or chronic hepatitis B, take 1 tablet (equivalent to 245mg of tenofovir disoproxil) once daily. It may be taken with or without food. The optimal duration of treatment for chronic hepatitis B is unknown. For patients with a baseline creatinine clearance of <50mL/min, adjust the dosing interval of this medicine according to Table 1. No adjustment of the dosing interval is necessary in patients with mild renal impairment (creatinine clearance 50-80mL/min); calculated creatinine clearance and serum phosphate should be monitored regularly (see Warning 3). Table 1. Adjustment of dosing interval according to creatinine clearance Creatinine clearance (mL/min)a ≥50: Every 24 hours 30-49: Every 48 hours 10-29: Every 72-96 hours Patients on hemodialysis: Every 7 days or approximately 12 hours after dialysisb The pharmacokinetics of tenofovir have not been evaluated in patients with creatinine clearance below 10mL/min who are not receiving hemodialysis; therefore, no dosing recommendations are available for these patients. a. Calculated using ideal (lean) body weight. b. Generally, administer once weekly, assuming 3 hemodialysis sessions of approximately 4 hours each per week. This medicine should be administered after dialysis is completed.

Precautions

This medication is an antiviral used to treat hepatitis B virus. Treatment discontinuation can lead to severe worsening of hepatitis; therefore, liver condition should be monitored thoroughly for a long period after discontinuing treatment. Patients with allergies to this medication, lactose intolerance, galactose intolerance, or genetic metabolic disorders should not use it. Furthermore, this medication should not be taken with certain other medications, especially avoiding combination therapy with similar components or Adefovir. Patients with weakened kidney function should undergo kidney function tests before taking this medication and should routinely monitor kidney status during treatment. If taking medications that may cause harm to the kidneys, it is advisable not to use this medication. This medication may affect bone health; thus, patients at risk for osteoporosis or with a history of fractures should consider a bone density test. Contains sulfites, which may cause some allergic reactions or asthma exacerbations, so caution is advised. It should only be used during pregnancy if necessary, and nursing mothers should avoid breastfeeding while taking this medication. Safety and efficacy have not been established for children under 12 years old or for those weighing less than 35 kg. Elderly patients aged 65 and older should use it cautiously considering liver and kidney function status. In case of overdose, seek medical attention promptly for appropriate treatment; some medications may be removed by hemodialysis.
