Treatment of respiratory and skin infections and mycobacterial infections; Helicobacter pylori eradication
This medication is effective against various bacteria and is used to treat infections of the lower respiratory tract such as bronchitis and pneumonia, as well as upper respiratory tract infections like pharyngitis and sinusitis. It is also effective for skin and skin tissue infections and is used to treat specific mycobacterial infections such as Mycobacterium avium and Mycobacterium intracellulare. Additionally, this medication aids in the eradication of Helicobacter pylori, which causes duodenal ulcers. Thus, it is effective in treating a variety of infections due to its capability to target multiple bacterial strains.
○ Adults: The usual dose of clarithromycin is 250mg (potency) twice daily. For severe infections, administer 500mg (potency) twice daily. The usual treatment period is 7~14 days. In patients with renal impairment and a creatinine clearance of 30mL/min or less, the dose should be reduced by half. That is, administer 250mg (potency) once daily, or, for severe infections, 250mg (potency) twice daily. Do not administer for more than 14 days in these patients. ○ Mycobacterial infections: Administer 500mg (potency) twice daily. In this case, it should be administered in combination with other antimycobacterial agents such as ethambutol, clofazimine, or rifampin. ○ Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with duodenal ulcers: Administer 500mg (potency) 3 times daily for 14 days in combination with omeprazole 40mg once daily, followed by omeprazole 40mg once daily for 14 consecutive days. That is, administer clarithromycin 500mg (potency) 3 times daily for 14 days (days 1~14), and omeprazole 40mg once daily for 28 days (days 1~28).
○ Children 12 years of age and older: Same as adults ○ Children under 12 years of age: Use clarithromycin dry syrup.
