This medication is primarily used for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. Additionally, it is effective as an adjunct for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy, and it can be used regardless of the presence of systemic symptoms. Furthermore, it helps in the treatment of fibromyalgia. In summary, it is used for the control of pain related to the nervous system and seizures.
This medication as Pregabalin is administered orally divided into two doses daily, regardless of food. 1. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: The starting dose can be 150 mg daily, which may be increased to 300 mg daily after 3 to 7 days. Subsequent increases to a maximum of 600 mg daily may be made at 7-day intervals. - Central neuropathic pain: The starting dose is 150 mg daily.
There is insufficient safety and efficacy data for children under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12-17 years, so administration is not recommended.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior, so any symptoms of depression or mood changes during treatment should be reported to a doctor immediately. Individuals with hypersensitivity to this medication or specific genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should not take it. Diabetic patients need to be cautious as weight gain may necessitate adjustments in the dosage of blood sugar control medications. If symptoms of edema such as swelling of the face or around the mouth occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately. Elderly patients may experience increased dizziness or drowsiness, so caution is particularly advised when starting treatment, and it is recommended to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. Transient blurred vision or changes in vision may occur; consult a doctor if these symptoms appear. Discontinuing this medication suddenly may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety, so it is safe to taper off the dosage under a doctor's guidance. Patients with a history of substance abuse may have a higher risk of misuse of this medication, so caution is necessary during treatment. Patients with reduced kidney function may require dosage adjustments, and those with heart disease should use this medication cautiously. Care should be taken when administering other medications that have central nervous system depressant effects, especially opioid analgesics, as this may increase the risk of respiratory depression. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consult a doctor prior to taking this medication as it may affect the fetus. Breastfeeding women should carefully consider whether to breastfeed while taking this medication, as it may be passed into breast milk. Hives, severe swelling, angioedema, facial swelling, swelling around the mouth and upper airways, severe allergic reactions, severe rashes accompanied by high fever, blisters, skin peeling, oral/ophthalmic mucosal pain, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, severe skin reactions, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory issues accompanied by cough and fever, respiratory distress, pulmonary edema, respiratory depression, decreased respiratory function, clonic contractions.
