Treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunct for partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia
This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. Additionally, it is utilized as an adjunct for partial seizures in epilepsy patients, with or without secondary generalization. Lastly, it is effective for alleviating symptoms of fibromyalgia. In summary, this drug is used for neuropathic pain, partial seizures in epilepsy, and fibromyalgia.
This medication should be administered orally in divided doses, twice daily, regardless of food. 1. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose is 150 mg per day, which can be increased to 300 mg per day after 3 to 7 days, and can be increased to a maximum of 600 mg per day if necessary at intervals of 7 days. - Central Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose is 150 mg per day, and can be increased to 300 mg per day after one week, with further increases to a target dose of 600 mg per day after another week if needed.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so if mood changes or abnormal behaviors occur during treatment, it is important to consult a healthcare professional immediately. Patients who have allergies to any ingredients in this medication or specific genetic problems such as lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Diabetic patients may experience weight gain while taking this medication, requiring adjustments to their blood sugar control medication doses. In case of severe allergic reactions such as angioedema, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and healthcare providers should be informed. Elderly patients may experience dizziness and drowsiness from this medication, posing a risk of falls, so caution is advised until they become accustomed to the medication. Temporary blurriness of vision or changes in vision may occur, and these symptoms may improve upon discontinuation of the medication. Discontinuing this medication suddenly may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, and anxiety, so it should be tapered off gradually as directed by a physician. Due to the risk of drug misuse, patients with a history of drug abuse should be closely monitored. Patients with reduced kidney function need to have their dosing adjusted, and those with heart disease should also use this medication with caution. When taken with opioid analgesics, the central nervous system depressant effects may increase, leading to respiratory depression risk, so caution is advised. It is safest to avoid activities such as driving or operating machinery until dizziness or drowsiness subsides after taking this medication. During early pregnancy, this medication may pose risks to the fetus, so it should not be taken by pregnant women, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraceptive methods. Breastfeeding women should consider discontinuing breastfeeding or this medication, as it may pass into breast milk and affect the infant. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, and depression may occur, and treatment such as hemodialysis may be necessary. Keep this medication out of the reach of children and do not transfer it to other containers.
