Treatment of skin fungal infections (athlete's foot, body tinea, etc.) and fingernail and toenail fungal infections
This medication is effective for various skin fungal infections caused by dermatophytes, such as athlete's foot, body tinea, and groin tinea (jock itch). It is also used to treat adult toenail and fingernail fungal infections. In children, it is used for the treatment of tinea capitis. This medication helps improve various fungal infections of the skin and nails.
As terbinafine: 125 mg once, twice daily, or 250 mg once daily. The treatment duration according to the disease is as follows: 1) Dermatophytosis Athlete's foot (interdigital type, plantar type/moccasin type): 2-6 weeks Body tinea: 2-4 weeks Groin tinea (jock itch): 2-4 weeks 2) Fingernail and toenail fungal infections Typically administered for 6 weeks to 3 months. If there is infection in the toenails or relatively small toes, or if the patient is young, the treatment duration can be shortened to less than 3 months. The treatment duration for toenail infections is usually sufficient for 3 months, but in some patients, it may take 6 months or longer. For patients with slow nail growth, the treatment duration may be extended.
Administer to children over 2 years of age. Tinea capitis: 4 weeks 1) Weight less than 20 kg (under 5 years): 62.5 mg once daily. 2) Weight 20-40 kg (5-12 years):
This medication is not recommended for patients with chronic liver disease or active liver disease. Before taking the medication, liver function tests (AST/ALT) should be done, and liver function should be regularly monitored within 4-6 weeks after the start of treatment. If liver function test results increase, the medication should be stopped immediately, and if symptoms such as nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue, vomiting, abdominal pain, or jaundice occur, the doctor should be notified immediately. This medication can rarely cause serious liver damage such as hepatic failure, so if there are symptoms of liver dysfunction, administration should be stopped immediately and tests should be conducted. This medication should not be used in patients with blood disorders or severely impaired kidney function, children under 2 years of age, or breastfeeding women. Additionally, individuals allergic to this medication or its ingredients should not take it. If a rash or severe itching or serious skin reactions occur during administration, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical attention should be sought. This medication can cause musculoskeletal symptoms such as muscle pain or joint pain, and in rare cases, severe muscle damage may occur, so if symptoms are severe, it should be reported immediately. If dizziness, hypotension, or difficulty breathing occurs, the medication should also be discontinued immediately. This medication can cause gastrointestinal disturbances such as indigestion, nausea, and diarrhea, and has been reported to cause mental and neurological symptoms such as depression, headaches, and taste disturbances. Caution should be taken as dizziness may occur when driving or operating machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if other medications are being taken, the doctor or pharmacist must be informed. Particularly when taken with medications metabolized in the liver, monitoring or dosage adjustments may be necessary. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully weigh the benefits and risks of taking this medication, and nursing mothers should discontinue breastfeeding while taking it. Care should be taken in pediatric or elderly patients, as liver and kidney functions may be reduced. Overdose may result in headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, and dizziness, and appropriate treatment should be sought at a hospital immediately. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children and kept at room temperature away from direct sunlight.
Liver failure, jaundice, liver failure leading to death or liver transplantation during antifungal treatment, hepatitis, biliary tract failure, severe liver failure, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, eosinophilia along with systemic symptoms, rhabdomyolysis, hypotension, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, anaphylactic reactions (including angioedema and systemic lupus erythematosus), paralysis, severe skin adverse reactions (severe rashes, blisters, skin shedding
Rash, skin itching, fever, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, malaise, elevated liver enzymes such as γ-GTP, AST/ALT, LDH, ALP, leukopenia, anemia, photosensitivity reactions, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, erythema multiforme, toxic skin rashes, exfoliative dermatitis, vesicular dermatitis, psoriatic rashes, exacerbation of psoriasis, hair loss, musculoskeletal reactions (joint pain, muscle pain), muscle pain, weakness, headache, taste disturbances, dizziness, drowsiness
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to prevent exposure to air and moisture, ideally at room temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will help maintain the medication's effectiveness and prevent degradation.
