This medication is used to improve atherosclerotic symptoms in adult patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease. It is also effective in alleviating atherosclerotic symptoms such as cardiovascular-related death, myocardial infarction, and stroke in patients with acute coronary syndrome, including unstable angina or non-Q-wave myocardial infarction. It is effective for patients who have undergone or are scheduled for coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass grafting. This medication is used to reduce the risk of thromboembolism and stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation who cannot use vitamin K antagonists. It is particularly suitable when the risk of bleeding is low and is helpful for patients with vascular risk factors. Overall, this medication plays a vital role in preventing and improving vascular-related risks and complications.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

For patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease, clopidogrel is administered orally at a dosage of 75 mg once daily. For patients with acute coronary syndrome, administer an initial loading dose of 300 mg orally once on the first day, followed by a maintenance dose of 75 mg once daily. In this case, aspirin 75 to 325 mg should be co-administered once daily with this drug. For patients with atrial fibrillation.

Precautions

This medication prevents platelet aggregation in the blood and prevents clot formation. This drug must be converted to its active form in the liver to be effective, therefore, individuals with genetically impaired enzymes that metabolize this drug may experience reduced efficacy. Additionally, taking this medication with certain drugs may increase the concentration of its active metabolite and raise the risk of bleeding, thus, co-administration with such drugs is not recommended. This medication should not be taken if you are allergic to it or its ingredients, currently have bleeding, or have severe liver damage. Pregnant or nursing women should consult a doctor before using this medication. Due to bleeding risks, any symptoms of bleeding should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately, and the doctor should be informed prior to any scheduled surgery regarding the use of this medication. Caution is necessary when taking this medication with other drugs that elevate bleeding risks, especially aspirin or anticoagulants, as this can increase the risk of bleeding. Regular monitoring should be performed for any symptoms of bleeding or blood abnormalities during the use of this medication. Elderly patients, those with reduced kidney or liver function, and individuals with low body weight should use this medication with heightened caution due to increased bleeding risk. Overdosage may prolong bleeding time, and since there is no specific antidote, it should be avoided. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
