This medication is primarily helpful for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia when diet and exercise are insufficient. It is particularly used as an adjunct to diet or other treatments in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia, lowering total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels, thereby delaying the progression of atherosclerosis. It can also be used as an adjunct in dietary treatment for pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 who have high cholesterol levels. It is effective in patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia as well. Moreover, in adult patients at high risk for cardiovascular diseases, it helps reduce the risks of stroke, myocardial infarction, and arterial revascularization. Therefore, this medication is used for reducing the risk of hypercholesterolemia and cardiovascular diseases.
