Minocycline hydrochloride is used to improve various symptoms of periodontitis, especially chronic marginal periodontitis, caused by Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, Prevotella melaninogenicus, Eikenella corrodens, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Capnocytophaga spp., Haemophilus actinomycetemcomitans, etc. This medication works effectively against the respective bacteria to reduce inflammation and help restore the health of periodontal tissues. Consequently, it alleviates symptoms such as gum bleeding, swelling, and pain, while improving oral hygiene. It is a medication that significantly contributes to the maintenance of patients' teeth and the enhancement of oral health.
Dosage
Typically, an adequate amount is injected into the periodontal pocket once a week.
Precautions
This medication should not be used in patients with an allergy to tetracycline-class antibiotics or who show hypersensitivity to any of the components of this medication. If allergic symptoms, skin rashes, itching, etc. occur during use, stop using it immediately. As this medication may cause antibiotic-resistant bacteria to develop in some patients, it is advisable to use it only for the minimum necessary duration of treatment. If symptoms do not improve, do not continue using it, and if sensitization symptoms (itching, redness, swelling, small blisters, etc.) occur, stop using it immediately. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication only under careful judgment by a physician when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks since its safety has not been established. In children, it is advisable not to use it as its safety has not been confirmed. This medication is for dental use only and may cause temporary pain or irritation during use, so caution is advised. It is recommended to manage dental plaque, such as removing calculus, before applying the medication and to insert the tip of the injector deeply to ensure the medication reaches the depth of the periodontal pockets effectively. It is advisable to avoid rinsing the mouth vigorously or eating immediately after application. During use, there may be pain or irritation at the site where the medication is applied, so caution is required, and it should be stored out of reach of children. Resistance has been reported in various strains to similar antibiotics in the country, so use should be monitored closely for the occurrence of resistant bacteria.
