Minocycline hydrochloride is used to improve various symptoms of chronic marginal periodontal disease caused by Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, Prevotella melaninogenica, Eikenella corrodens, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Capnocytophaga spp., Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, etc.

Dosage

Typically, a sufficient amount is injected into the periodontal pocket once a week.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals who are allergic to tetracycline antibiotics or have hypersensitivity to any component of this medication. Since allergic reactions may occur during use, if symptoms such as itching or rash develop, use should be stopped immediately. Using this medication may cause infections from specific resistant bacteria or non-infectious bacteria, so it should be discontinued if such symptoms appear. Occasionally, side effects such as pain or irritation at the application site, feeling of tooth protrusion, headaches, or rashes may occur, so caution is advised. To prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria, it is advisable to use this medication for the minimum required duration after confirming susceptibility to the infecting bacteria. If symptoms do not improve, do not continue use, and if allergy symptoms occur, discontinue immediately and consult a doctor. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the benefits and risks before using this medication. Safety has not been established in children, and experience with use is lacking, so it is advisable to avoid use in this population. This medication is for dental use only, and it is preferable to undertake plaque management such as tartar removal before use. When administering the medication, the tip of the syringe should be inserted deeply to ensure that the medication reaches the periodontal pocket, and vigorous rinsing or eating should be avoided immediately after administration. Keep out of reach of children, and do not use expired medication.
