Summary
- Main use
- Treatment of chronic hepatitis B and HIV-1 infection
- Who takes it
- Adults · Children
- Adult dose
- Adults: For the treatment of HIV-1 or chronic hepatitis B, take 1 tablet once daily (equivalent to 245mg of tenofovir disoproxil). It may be taken with or without food. The optimal duration of treatment for chronic hepatitis B is unknown. No adjustment to the dosing interval is necessary in patients with mild renal impairment (creatinine clearance 50-80mL/min). Estimated creatinine clearance, serum phosphate, urine glucose, and urine protein should be monitored regularly. For patients with baseline creatinine clearance <50mL/min, adjust the dosing interval of this medication according to Table 1. Creatinine clearance (mL/min)a ≥50: every 24 hours Creatinine clearance (mL/min)a 30-49: every 48 hours Creatinine clearance (mL/min)a 10-29: every 72-96 hours Hemodialysis patients: every 7 days or approximately 12 hours after dialysisb a. Calculated using ideal (lean) body weight. b. The dose is administered once weekly, generally assuming 3 hemodialysis sessions per week, each lasting approximately 4 hours. This medication should be administered after dialysis is completed. The pharmacokinetics of tenofovir have not been evaluated in patients with creatinine clearance below 10mL/min who are not receiving hemodialysis; therefore, no dosing recommendations are available for these patients.
- Child dose
- Children 12 years and older (35kg or more): For the treatment of HIV-1 or chronic hepatitis B, take 1 tablet once daily (equivalent to 245mg of tenofovir disoproxil). It may be taken with or without food. The safety and efficacy have not been established in pediatric patients with chronic hepatitis B who weigh less than 35kg. There are no data to support dose recommendations for pediatric patients with renal impairment.

Precautions
This drug is an antiviral used to treat hepatitis B virus. Discontinuing treatment may worsen hepatitis, so follow-up with a doctor and monitoring should continue for a long time after stopping the medication. This medication should not be taken by individuals with allergies to it or with certain genetic conditions such as lactose intolerance. Also, this medication should not be used with certain other antiviral agents, so co-administration should be avoided. Patients with kidney function issues or at risk of kidney impairment should undergo regular kidney function tests before and during treatment, and the dosing interval should be adjusted accordingly. Care should be taken when taking drugs that can burden the kidneys, and if symptoms like bone pain or fractures appear, a doctor should be consulted immediately. This drug may cause side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, depression, and rash in some patients, so severe symptoms should be reported to the healthcare provider. Pregnant women may take it if necessary but should consult with a doctor before deciding, and nursing mothers are advised to avoid breastfeeding while taking this medication. It is recommended not to use this drug for children under 12 years of age or weighing less than 35 kg, as safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients or those with reduced kidney function require dosage adjustments and careful monitoring. In case of overdose, immediate hospital visit for necessary treatment is required, and the drug can be removed through hemodialysis. Finally, store this drug out of reach of children and keep it in its original container to prevent misuse or quality degradation.
