This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also utilized as an adjunctive therapy for partial seizures in epilepsy, with or without secondary generalization. Additionally, it helps alleviate symptoms of fibromyalgia. In summary, this drug is used for the treatment of neuropathic pain, partial seizures in epilepsy, and fibromyalgia.
This drug, as Pregabalin, is administered orally in divided doses twice daily regardless of food intake. 1. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose of 150 mg per day, which can be increased to 300 mg per day after 3 to 7 days, and if necessary, can be increased to a maximum of 600 mg at 7-day intervals. - Central Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose of 150 mg per day, with an increase to 300 mg per day after one week.
Safety and efficacy data are insufficient for children under 12 years and adolescents aged 12 to 17, and therefore, administration is not recommended.
This drug is used for the treatment of epilepsy and neuropathic pain, and there may be an increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors during treatment, so patients and caregivers should closely monitor for changes in mood or unusual behavior. Patients with allergies to any of this medication's components or those with specific genetic lactose intolerance should not take it. Diabetic patients may require dosage adjustments of blood sugar control medications due to weight gain, and if symptoms of angioedema occur, the medication should be stopped immediately. Elderly patients should use caution due to the risk of accidents from dizziness and drowsiness, and visual disturbances such as blurred vision may occur. Discontinuing this medication abruptly may result in withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and nausea, so it should be gradually tapered under a doctor's guidance. Patients with a history of substance abuse may be at higher risk of misuse, necessitating careful observation during use. Patients with heart disease or renal impairment should consult healthcare providers before taking this medication, and concurrent use with opioid analgesics may increase the risk of central nervous system depression. The medication should be avoided by pregnant women due to the risk of fetal malformation in early pregnancy, and fertile women should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women are advised to discontinue breastfeeding or the medication, as it is excreted in breast milk. Before driving or operating dangerous machinery, patients should confirm whether this medication causes dizziness or drowsiness, and if serious side effects such as skin rashes occur, they should stop the medication immediately and inform their healthcare provider. In case of overdose, immediate medical treatment is necessary, and the medication should be stored out of reach of children.
