Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to any of its components. It should be administered with caution in patients with impaired kidney function, decreased liver function, and elderly patients. Clinical trials have reported neurological symptoms such as drowsiness, headache, dizziness, as well as gastrointestinal symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea, and rarely may lead to changes in blood counts, elevated liver function tests, or skin rashes. As this medication may cause drowsiness, caution should be taken when driving vehicles or operating hazardous machinery. If the patient has been receiving long-term steroid therapy, the steroid dosage should be reduced gradually while using this medication. For patients with impaired kidney function, drug concentration may increase, so it is advisable to start at a lower dose and monitor closely. The efficacy for patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis has not been adequately studied, so it should be used cautiously, starting before the onset of symptoms and continuing until symptoms resolve. If there is no effect, it is preferable not to continue using the medication for a long time. Like other antihistamines, taking this medication with alcohol may enhance side effects, hence it should be avoided. Women who are pregnant or could become pregnant are advised not to use this medication, and should consult with a doctor for careful consideration in essential cases. Breastfeeding women should also avoid using this medication, as it may pass into breast milk, and if necessary, it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding. Safety in children has not been sufficiently confirmed, so it should be administered to children with caution. Elderly patients may be at higher risk due to potential decline in kidney function, hence precaution is advised. This medication may affect allergy testing, so it is recommended not to take it prior to allergy skin tests.
