Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have allergic reactions to specific components or have experienced such reactions in the past. It is also not safe to administer to patients with severely impaired kidney function or those undergoing dialysis. It should never be used in infants under 1 year old and should only be administered in liquid form to children under 6 years old. The liquid formulation contains a component called maltitol, which should be avoided in patients who are genetically unable to properly digest fructose. Patients with decreased kidney or liver function and elderly patients should use this medication with caution, as it may increase the concentration in the body. This medication may cause dizziness, headache, and drowsiness, so caution is required when performing tasks that require concentration, such as driving or operating machinery. Combining with alcohol or other medications affecting the central nervous system may intensify drowsiness or decreased concentration, so it is advisable to avoid this combination. Patients with urinary obstruction or conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia should be cautious, as this medication may exacerbate urinary issues. Patients with epilepsy or who are at risk of seizures should be careful, as symptoms may worsen after taking this medication. The liquid formulation contains preservatives and sweeteners that may cause allergic reactions or health impacts, so those who are sensitive should pay special attention. This medication can interact with other drugs, particularly alcohol or central nervous system depressants, so it should not be taken together. Pregnant women should use this medication cautiously, as there is limited data regarding its effects on the fetus, based on medical advice. Breastfeeding women should also be cautious, as it may pass into breast milk and could cause adverse reactions in the baby. For children under 12 years, safety and appropriate dosage have not been established, thus it is especially recommended not to use it in infants under 1 year old. Elderly patients may have increased drug concentration due to decreased kidney function, so starting with a low dose and carefully monitoring is advisable. It is helpful to discontinue this medication before allergy testing for accurate results. In case of overdose, adults may experience severe drowsiness, while children may first exhibit agitation and anxiety, and there is no specific antidote, so immediate medical treatment is required.
