This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults and is used as an adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy. It also helps alleviate the symptoms of fibromyalgia. Due to its effectiveness in various neurological conditions, it is used to improve the pain and symptoms of patients.
This medication should be taken orally in two divided doses per day without regard to food. 1. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: Starting dose is 150 mg per day, and may be increased to 300 mg per day within 3 to 7 days, and if necessary, to a maximum of 600 mg with 7-day intervals. - Central neuropathic pain: Starting dose is 150 mg per day, increased to 300 mg per day after one week, additional

This drug may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior; if during treatment there are signs of depression or mood changes, consult your doctor immediately. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or specific genetic issues like lactose intolerance should not take it. Diabetic patients should be cautious as weight gain may require adjustments to blood sugar-controlling medications. If allergic reactions such as angioedema occur, stop taking the medication immediately and seek medical attention. Elderly patients should be particularly careful when starting the medication due to the risk of dizziness or drowsiness, which may lead to falls. Vision blurriness or changes may occur, so consult your doctor if these symptoms happen. Discontinuing this medication abruptly may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, and anxiety, so it should be gradually reduced under a doctor’s supervision. There is a risk of drug abuse; thus, patients with a history of substance abuse should be particularly cautious and report any unusual behaviors immediately. Patients with impaired kidney function may need a dose adjustment, so consult your doctor. Caution is required for patients with heart disease while taking this medication. Taking this medication in combination with opioid analgesics may increase the risk of central nervous system depression, so be cautious during concurrent use. Patients with weak respiratory function or elderly individuals may be at risk of severe respiratory depression and may require dosage adjustments. Pregnant women should avoid this medication, especially in early pregnancy, due to potential congenital malformations for the fetus, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women should consider the possibility of this medication passing into breast milk and potentially affecting the baby, and should make a careful decision regarding breastfeeding. It is advisable to avoid activities requiring attention, such as driving or operating machinery, during the initial period of taking this medication. Severe skin reactions may occur infrequently, so if skin rashes or other unusual symptoms develop, stop taking the medication and consult your doctor immediately. Overdose may cause drowsiness, confusion, depression, and may require treatments such as hemodialysis.
