Treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive therapy for partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia
This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It also plays a role in the adjunctive treatment of partial seizures in epilepsy patients and may be effective even when accompanied by secondary generalized symptoms in some patients. Additionally, it helps alleviate symptoms in fibromyalgia patients and improve their quality of life. In summary, this medication is used for the treatment of nerve-related pain and seizures, as well as chronic musculoskeletal pain disorders.
This medication should be taken orally in divided doses of twice a day regardless of food. 1. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose is 150 mg per day; after 3 to 7 days it can be increased to 300 mg per day, and thereafter can be increased to a maximum daily dose of 600 mg. - Central Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose is 150 mg per day; it can be increased to 300 mg per day after one week, and further increased after an additional week.
There are insufficient safety and efficacy data for children under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12 to 17 years, thus use is not recommended.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior, so if depression or changes in mood or behavior occur while taking it, you should immediately inform your healthcare provider. Do not take it if you have an allergy to pregabalin or any components of this medication, and patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should avoid it. Diabetic patients should be cautious as weight gain may affect blood sugar control, and if symptoms of angioedema occur, you must stop taking the medication immediately. Elderly individuals may experience symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, and confusion; therefore, special caution is needed during initial doses, and visual changes such as blurred vision may occur. If this medication is suddenly discontinued, withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety may occur, so it should be gradually tapered according to a doctor's instructions. Due to the risk of drug abuse, patients with a history of substance abuse should consult with their healthcare provider before taking the medication and should be monitored for unusual behavior during treatment. Patients with reduced kidney function may require dosage adjustments, and heart failure patients should also take it with caution. Concomitant use with opioid analgesics may increase central nervous system depressant effects, so caution is advised when used together. Pregnant women are advised not to take this medication as it may pose a risk of fetal malformations during early pregnancy, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. During breastfeeding, the medication may be transmitted through breast milk, so you should consider discontinuing breastfeeding or the medication. Dizziness and drowsiness are common, so refrain from engaging in hazardous activities such as driving or operating machinery until you confirm your symptoms post-administration. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, and depression may occur, and treatment such as hemodialysis may be required if necessary. Keep this medication out of reach of children and take care not to transfer it to another container. This medication can cause various side effects in multiple organs, so you should immediately inform your healthcare provider if any unusual symptoms arise.
