Child dose
There is insufficient safety and efficacy data for pediatric patients under 12 years old and adolescents aged 12-17 years; therefore, administration is not recommended.

This medication is used in adults to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain. It is also effective as an adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy, whether or not they have secondary general symptoms. Additionally, it aids in improving symptoms of fibromyalgia. This medication is utilized for various neurological conditions and pain management.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken orally, divided into two doses daily without regard to food. 1. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral and Central Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose is 150 mg daily, which may be increased to 300 mg daily within 3 to 7 days. If needed, the dose may be further increased to a maximum of 600 mg daily in 7-day intervals. 2. Epilepsy: Starting dose is 150 mg daily, which may be increased to 300 mg daily after one week.

Child dose

There is insufficient safety and efficacy data for pediatric patients under 12 years old and adolescents aged 12-17 years; therefore, administration is not recommended.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors; therefore, if symptoms of depression or mood changes occur during treatment, medical staff must be informed immediately. This medication should not be taken by individuals with hypersensitivity to this drug or certain genetic problems such as lactose intolerance. Patients with diabetes may experience effects on blood sugar control due to weight gain, and adjustments to diabetes medication may be necessary. If symptoms of angioedema appear, the medication should be stopped immediately. Elderly patients should be careful due to risks of dizziness or drowsiness that can lead to falls. Visual disturbances or changes in sight may occur, and if symptoms appear, consultation with medical staff is necessary. Abruptly stopping this medication may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety, so dosage should be gradually reduced under physician's guidance. Patients with a history of substance abuse should be carefully monitored as the risk of abuse of this medication may be higher. In patients with heart disease, careful use is advised, particularly when taken with opioid analgesics due to risks of central nervous system depression. There may be a risk of respiratory depression; therefore, dose adjustments may be required in patients with respiratory or neurological diseases and in elderly patients. In early pregnancy, there is a risk of fetal malformations; thus, pregnant women should avoid this medication, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. During breastfeeding, this medication can be passed into breast milk and may affect infants, so consideration should be given to either stopping breastfeeding or discontinuing the medication. There is a risk of accidents while driving or operating machinery due to dizziness or drowsiness; caution is advised. Severe skin reactions can occur rarely, and if symptoms such as rashes or swelling develop, the medication should be stopped immediately, and medical consultation is required. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, and depression may occur, and treatments such as hemodialysis may be necessary. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
