Precautions

This medication is a beta-lactam antibiotic and should not be used in patients who have had hypersensitivity reactions to penicillins or cephalosporins. Special caution is needed when administering it to patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia, as there is an increased risk of rash. It is also advisable not to administer to patients who previously experienced jaundice or liver dysfunction due to this medication or penicillin. Caution should be exercised when administering to patients with impaired liver function or moderate to severe renal impairment, and the dosing interval may need adjustment. Patients with allergic predisposition, difficulty with oral intake, elderly individuals, and those in poor general condition should also be watched carefully. This medication may cause gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, and in severe cases, colitis may occur, so treatment should be stopped immediately if symptoms arise. There is potential for liver dysfunction, especially for elderly patients over 60 years and men, so regular liver function tests are important. Severe skin reactions such as rash, itching, and in severe cases, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, may occur rarely, and should the symptoms appear, the treatment should be stopped immediately. Blood dyscrasias such as leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and anemia may occur, so periodic blood tests are necessary. Central nervous system side effects including anxiety, confusion, and seizures have been reported rarely, especially in patients with diminished renal function or those receiving high doses. Administration should be avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should use it cautiously after consulting a doctor, as side effects may manifest in the infant during breastfeeding. This medication may interact with other drugs, especially anticoagulants, probenecid, and allopurinol, so caution is required when used concurrently. Long-term use may pose a risk of resistant bacteria and vitamin K deficiency-related bleeding; thus, the duration and dosage must be strictly managed. In cases of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms, renal failure, and hypersensitivity shock may occur, so immediate medical consultation and appropriate treatment are necessary. Storage should be in a dry container sealed to prevent moisture, and while storing, maintain a cool temperature between 1 and 25 degrees Celsius. It is crucial to check for a history of allergic reactions prior to administration.
