Precautions

This drug is a beta-lactam antibiotic and must not be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to penicillins or cephalosporins. Caution is needed especially in cases with a history of severe allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and shock. It should be avoided in patients with viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia due to a higher risk of rash. Patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice from this medication or penicillin should refrain from use due to a potential risk of recurrence. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function may have increased drug concentration, necessitating dose adjustments and careful monitoring. Attention should be paid to allergy-prone individuals, the elderly, and those with poor nutritional status, as vitamin deficiency symptoms may arise. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting may occur, and especially if severe colitis symptoms such as pseudomembranous colitis arise, administration should be discontinued immediately. Liver function must be carefully monitored during and after treatment as hepatitis or jaundice may arise from liver dysfunction. Severe skin reactions such as rashes, urticaria, and in severe cases, Stevens-Johnson syndrome may occur; if these symptoms arise, administration should be stopped immediately and medical advice followed. Blood abnormalities such as leukopenia and thrombocytopenia have been reported infrequently, which may require regular blood testing. Central nervous system symptoms such as anxiety, agitation, confusion, and seizures may occur infrequently, particularly in cases of impaired kidney function or high-dose administration. Kidney issues such as deterioration of kidney function and acute renal failure may occur, so regular kidney function tests are recommended. Antibiotic use may disrupt gut bacterial balance, leading to candidiasis or stomatitis, which should be treated appropriately if symptoms arise. There may be a tendency for bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency, so attention to bleeding symptoms is required. This medication may interact with other drugs; extra caution is needed when combined with anticoagulants, probenecid, allopurinol, or mycophenolate mofetil. It is best not to use during the first trimester of pregnancy, and during breastfeeding, the baby should be monitored for diarrhea or skin rash as adverse reactions may occur. It is recommended for children over 12 years old or weighing over 40 kg, and cautious administration is necessary in the elderly due to an increased risk of adverse reactions from diminished physiological function. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms, seizures, and hypersensitivity shock may occur; administration should be stopped immediately and appropriate emergency care sought. This medication should be stored in a dry place at or below 25 degrees Celsius, and regular monitoring for resistance bacteria and liver, kidney, and hematologic function is necessary during prolonged use.
