Effective for the treatment of respiratory and urinary tract infections
This medication is effective against a variety of bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Shigella, Salmonella, Klebsiella, and Staphylococcus, and is used to treat various types of infections. It is effective for respiratory infections excluding acute bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, infections of the ear, nose, and throat, bacterial prostatitis, urinary tract infections, gonococcal cervicitis and urethritis, gastrointestinal infections, biliary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, gynecological infections, peritonitis, eye-related infections, and others. However, it is recommended to use this medication only when no other treatment options are available due to the potential for side effects in certain diseases. This medication helps to effectively treat various bacterial infections.
Typically, ciprofloxacin is administered orally as 250 to 500 mg twice a day between meals. In cases of severe complicated infections, the dose may be increased to 750 mg twice a day. For acute infections, treatment generally lasts for 5 to 10 days, and even after symptoms have resolved, treatment should continue for at least an additional 3 days. In cases of renal impairment, the dosing should be adjusted based on creatinine clearance.
This medication can cause serious side effects such as tendinitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system effects, and exacerbation of myasthenia gravis. If these symptoms occur, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Patients with a history of severe myasthenia gravis should not use this medication and it should only be used when no other treatment options are available. Additionally, caution is advised for the elderly, patients with impaired kidney function, and those taking corticosteroids, as there is an increased risk of tendon rupture. This medication should not be administered to pregnant or potentially pregnant women, nursing mothers, adolescents under 18 years of age, and patients with epilepsy. Patients with a history of seizures, central nervous system disorders, severe renal impairment, the elderly, and those taking specific medications should use this medication with caution. During treatment, if neurological symptoms such as seizures, confusion, depression, or hallucinations occur, consult a doctor immediately. If gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, or bloody stools occur, there is a possibility of pseudomembranous colitis, so cessation of the medication and notification to a healthcare professional is necessary. This medication may cause photosensitivity, so avoid strong sunlight or UV exposure, and discontinue if a rash or itching occurs. Additionally, blood sugar disturbances may occur, so diabetic patients should monitor their blood glucose levels closely. This medication interacts with multiple other drugs, so if you are taking other medications, be sure to inform healthcare professionals, particularly avoiding simultaneous use with theophylline, tizanidine, and ketoprofen. In the event of overdose, kidney function impairment may occur, and immediate emergency treatment and proper management are required. Finally, this medication should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and kept out of the reach of children.
