Treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment of partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia.
This medication is used in adults to relieve pain caused by peripheral and central neuropathic conditions. It is also used as an adjunctive treatment for patients with epilepsy who have partial seizures, applicable in both cases with or without secondary generalization. Additionally, it helps relieve pain from fibromyalgia. In summary, it is used for neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy, and treatment of fibromyalgia.
This medication is pregabalin and should be administered orally in divided doses of the total daily dosage twice a day, without regard to food. 1. Neuropathic pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: The starting dose may be 150 mg once daily, with potential escalation to 300 mg once daily after 3 to 7 days, and if necessary, escalation to a maximum of 600 mg at 7-day intervals. - Central neuropathic pain: The starting dose is 150 mg once daily.
The safety and efficacy data are insufficient for children under 12 years and adolescents aged 12 to 17; hence, its use is not recommended.
This drug is used in the treatment of epilepsy, and there may be an increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors during its use, so patients and guardians should closely monitor for these symptoms. Do not take this medication if there is hypersensitivity to this drug or any genetic issues like lactose intolerance. Patients with diabetes should be cautious as weight gain from this drug may require adjustment of blood glucose control medications. If allergic reactions such as angioedema occur, stop taking the drug immediately. Elderly patients should be cautious as the risk of falls may increase due to dizziness or drowsiness. This drug can cause visual disturbances such as blurred vision, and symptoms may improve after discontinuation of the medication. Withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, nausea, and anxiety may occur upon sudden discontinuation, so abrupt cessation should be avoided. There is a risk of drug abuse; thus, patients with a history of mental health issues or substance abuse should be particularly careful. Patients with impaired kidney function need dosage adjustments, and those with severe heart disease should take this drug with caution. Co-administration with opioid analgesics may lead to exacerbated central nervous system depression, so caution is required. In early pregnancy, there is a risk of fetal malformations, so women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant must consult a physician before taking this medication and must use effective contraceptive methods during treatment. Breastfeeding mothers should decide whether to discontinue nursing or the medication, as this drug is excreted in breast milk. Before driving or operating machinery, check for symptoms of dizziness or drowsiness caused by this drug. In cases of overdose, changes in mental status, drowsiness, and seizures may occur, and immediate medical attention is necessary, with possible need for hemodialysis. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring to another container is not advisable for maintaining quality. If severe allergic reactions such as skin rash, fever, or difficulty breathing occur during treatment, stop taking the drug immediately and consult medical personnel.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in the oral/ocular mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, breathing abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headaches, lightning headaches, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis, urination.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air or moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly closed container. It is recommended to keep the storage temperature between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius to maintain the medication's effectiveness for a longer period.
