Safety and efficacy data for children under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12 to 17 are insufficient, so administration is not recommended.

This medication is used to alleviate peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also prescribed as an adjunct for patients with epilepsy who experience partial seizures. It can help reduce pain and discomfort caused by fibromyalgia. Thus, it is effective in managing various neurological disorders and pain.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken orally, divided into two doses per day regardless of meals. 1. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose 150mg per day, increase to 300mg per day after 3 to 7 days, can be increased to a maximum of 600mg with a 7-day interval if needed. - Central Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose 150mg per day, increase to 300mg per day after 1 week, then increase to a maximum of 600mg after another week.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so mood changes or behavioral changes should be closely monitored while taking it. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or certain hereditary diseases like lactose intolerance should not take it. Diabetic patients should be cautious as weight gain may require adjustments in diabetes control medications. If symptoms of angioedema occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately and medical advice should be sought. Elderly patients should be particularly careful at the beginning of treatment due to risks of dizziness and drowsiness. Patients with heart disease should be cautious when taking this medication, especially those with congestive heart failure, and should use it judiciously. Taking this medication with other central nervous system depressants may increase the risk of respiratory depression, so caution is advised. During early pregnancy, there is a risk of fetal malformations, so pregnant women should avoid taking it, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women are advised to either discontinue breastfeeding or stop taking this medication, as it may pass into breast milk. Activities that require driving or operating machinery should be avoided until dizziness or drowsiness resolves.
