Treatment of various bacterial infections including respiratory and urinary tract infections
This medication is an antibiotic effective against various bacterial infections. It is primarily used to treat respiratory infections excluding acute bronchitis and pneumonia acquired in the community. It is also effective against infections of the ear, nose, throat, bacterial prostatitis, and acute urinary tract infections. It can also be applied to gastrointestinal infections, bile duct infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and gynecological infections. However, it should only be used when there are no other treatment options for specific conditions such as acute bacterial sinusitis, chronic bronchitis, exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and acute otitis media. This medication is used for the treatment of various infections.
Typically for adults as Ciprofloxacin: 250 – 500 mg orally twice a day between meals. In cases of severe complicated infections, the dose may be increased to 750 mg twice a day. For acute infections, treatment is usually for 5 – 10 days, and an additional 3 days of treatment is required after symptoms disappear. For patients with renal impairment, the dose should be adjusted based on creatinine clearance: 1) Creatinine clearance
This medication may cause serious side effects such as tendonitis, tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system symptoms, so caution is required. It should not be administered to patients with severe myasthenia gravis as symptoms may worsen. Elderly patients, those with renal impairment, and patients receiving corticosteroids are at higher risk for tendon ruptures, so co-administration should be avoided. If symptoms of tendon pain or inflammation occur, the medicine should be discontinued immediately, and rest and avoidance of exercise are recommended. This medication may increase the risk of seizures, so caution is needed when used in patients with epilepsy or central nervous system disorders. It should not be used in pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, adolescents under 18, or patients with epilepsy. There are many drug interactions with this medication, especially when used in combination with theophylline, tizanidine, or ketoprofen, requiring careful attention. During treatment with this medication, strong sunlight exposure should be avoided, and treatment should be discontinued immediately if photosensitive reactions occur. Patients with diabetes should frequently monitor their blood sugar levels as there could be abnormal blood sugar symptoms, and rapid treatment is necessary for hypoglycemic events. This medication can affect kidney and liver functions, so patients should consult a healthcare professional if abnormal symptoms occur. Care should be taken when driving or operating machinery, and it is advisable not to take it with alcohol. In the case of overdose, renal function should be closely monitored, and appropriate emergency treatment is necessary.
