Improvement of hypercholesterolemia (primary and mixed) and suppression of the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease
This medication is used as an adjunct to diet therapy in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL-cholesterol levels, while increasing HDL-cholesterol levels. It is especially effective when applied with appropriate dietary therapy in individuals at increased risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia. Before drug administration, it is necessary to identify and treat potential secondary causes of dyslipidemia, such as diabetes and hypothyroidism, and continuously monitor treatment progress through lipid tests. Additionally, during hospitalization for acute coronary events, it is recommended to assess lipid status as soon as possible to inform treatment plans. This medication is used alongside dietary control and improves cholesterol levels through appropriate combination management.
This medication is administered once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, treatment starts at 10/5 mg once daily, and the dose can be adjusted within the range of 10/5 mg to 10/20 mg as needed. After dose adjustment, lipid levels should be checked at intervals no less than 4 weeks, and dosage may be increased up to a maximum of 10/20 mg daily.
This medication can rarely cause rhabdomyolysis, leading to severe kidney dysfunction, so if acute muscle pain or muscle weakness occurs, consult a doctor immediately. It should not be used in patients with severely impaired liver function or active liver disease, and treatment should be discontinued or adjusted if liver enzyme levels are abnormally high. Patients with muscle diseases or a history of muscle-related issues should consult a doctor before taking this medication, as the risk of muscle injury may increase depending on concomitant medications. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not use this medication. If planning to become pregnant, appropriate contraceptive methods should be employed. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function may be at higher risk for muscle damage while taking this medication, so regular check-ups and monitoring are necessary. This medication may interact with certain drugs, so inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are currently taking any medications, especially when used in conjunction with fibrates, cyclosporine, anticoagulants, etc. If symptoms such as muscle pain, fatigue, or fever occur during use, immediately inform healthcare personnel, and if necessary, blood tests should be conducted to check for muscle damage. Additionally, this medication contains lactose and should not be taken by patients with lactose intolerance. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery as dizziness may occur. Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents have not been sufficiently confirmed, therefore it is not recommended for this age group. When storing this medication, keep it out of reach of children and do not transfer it to other containers.
