Relief of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment for partial seizures, improvement of fibromyalgia.
This medicine is used for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. Additionally, it is effective as an adjunct for partial seizures in adults with epilepsy. It is also utilized to treat fibromyalgia. The main indications include neuropathic pain, epilepsy, and fibromyalgia. It helps improve symptoms of various neurological disorders.
This medication, which contains pregabalin, is administered orally in divided doses for a total daily dosage, twice a day, regardless of food intake. 1. Neuropathic pain 1) Peripheral neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg daily; it can be increased to 300 mg daily within 3 to 7 days, and if necessary, it can be further increased to a maximum of 600 mg daily at intervals of 7 days. 2) Central neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg daily.
There is insufficient safety and efficacy data for pediatric patients under 12 years old and adolescents aged 12-17; therefore, administration is not recommended.
This drug may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior, so it is important to inform medical staff immediately if symptoms of depression or mood changes appear during treatment. Patients with an allergy to pregabalin or any ingredient of this medication should not take it. Diabetic patients may need to adjust the dosage of blood sugar control medications due to weight gain after taking this drug. If symptoms of angioedema, such as swelling of the face or mouth, occur, the medication should be stopped immediately. Elderly patients should note that this medication may cause dizziness, drowsiness, loss of consciousness, and confusion. Transient visual disturbances or changes in vision may occur; if symptoms appear, consult a physician. Suddenly stopping this medication may result in withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, anxiety, depression, and seizures, so dosage adjustment should follow a physician's guidance. Patients with a history of substance abuse should be particularly cautious when taking this medication, observing for signs of misuse or dependence. Patients with impaired renal function may require dose adjustments. Patients with heart disease are advised to use this medication carefully due to the risk of congestive heart failure. Caution is advised when taking this medication with opioid analgesics due to the potential for increased central nervous system depression. This medication may cause dizziness and drowsiness, so care should be taken when driving or operating hazardous machinery. During early pregnancy, the risk of congenital malformations in the fetus is present, so it is generally advised that pregnant women do not take this medication. Women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women should consult with a doctor regarding the interruption of breastfeeding or the discontinuation of medication, as this drug can be passed into breast milk and may affect the infant. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness, confusion, depression, and seizures may occur, requiring immediate medical attention. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and changing the container for storage may lead to accidents and deterioration of quality.
