Effectiveness for recurrent acute otitis media and acute sinusitis.
This medication is effective against bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis. It is especially used for treating recurrent or persistent acute otitis media and acute sinusitis in pediatric patients. To use effectively, children under the age of 2 who have received antibiotic treatment for the disease within the last 3 months or children attending daycare should be considered. This medication helps improve the inflammatory condition in children with specific bacterial infections and risk factors.
For pediatric patients over 3 months, the dose is based on the amoxicillin content (600 mg/5 mL) at 90 mg/kg/day divided into doses every 12 hours. Treat for 10 days for acute otitis media and 7 days for acute sinusitis.
This medication contains phenylalanine, so it should not be used in patients with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria. The daily maximum intake of the artificial sweetener aspartame included in this medication should be observed, and care must be taken not to exceed 2.4 grams for adults. Patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics and those with a history of specific viral infections or liver function abnormalities should not use this medication. As it contains lactose, patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should also avoid taking it. Patients with weakened liver or kidney function should exercise caution when using this medication, as should those with allergic constitution, elderly patients, or patients in poor general health. Patients with gastrointestinal disorders accompanied by vomiting or diarrhea should be cautious, as drug absorption may not occur properly. Side effects such as diarrhea, vomiting, skin rash, contact dermatitis may occur; in severe cases, discontinuation of the medication and consulting a doctor should be done. Symptoms indicating liver dysfunction or severe allergic reactions can occur rarely, and regular monitoring may be necessary. During antibiotic use, serious gastrointestinal diseases like pseudomembranous colitis can develop, so if diarrhea or abdominal pain occurs, inform a doctor immediately. Antibiotic resistance may occur, so the medication should be taken precisely for the required duration, and it should not be discontinued arbitrarily even if symptoms improve. This medication may interact with other drugs, so inform a doctor when used in combination with anticoagulants or other antibiotics. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should carefully consider the risks and benefits of using this medication, as side effects may appear in the baby while breastfeeding. Safety has not been established for infants under 3 months, so they should not use it. Some clinical test results may be affected during the use of this medication, so inform the medical staff prior to tests. In the case of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms and kidney dysfunction may occur, and immediate medical treatment should be sought. When preparing the medicine, shake well as per guidelines, and store it in the refrigerator after preparation, using it within 7 days. Keep it out of reach of children and avoid high-temperature or humid places. This medication should be used solely for the treatment of bacterial infections and should be avoided for unnecessary use in viral diseases such as the common cold.
