Precautions

This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which metabolizes to phenylalanine in the body. Therefore, it should not be used in patients with the genetic condition phenylketonuria. The daily intake of aspartame should be limited to no more than 40mg per kg of body weight as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). For adults, caution should be exercised to not exceed a maximum of 2.4g per day. Certain patients should not use this medication. For instance, those who have previously experienced shock reactions from this medication, or who have genetic issues such as lactose intolerance, lactase enzyme deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should avoid taking it. Additionally, patients allergic to this medication's ingredients or to cephalosporin antibiotics, or those with hypersensitivity to penicillin antibiotics, or individuals with bronchial asthma or skin allergic symptoms need to be administered this medication carefully. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, those for whom oral intake is difficult, elderly patients, or patients in poor general condition may exhibit symptoms of vitamin K deficiency; hence they require particularly careful monitoring. Rarely, this medication can cause serious allergic reactions like anaphylaxis or shock; if symptoms such as discomfort, oral abnormalities, wheezing, dizziness, tinnitus, sweating, etc., occur during administration, use should be discontinued immediately. In the case of hyperreactive symptoms like skin rashes, hives, itching, fever, arthralgia, treatment should also be halted and appropriate care sought. In the gastrointestinal system, severe colitis, such as pseudomembranous colitis, may occur rarely, so if abdominal pain or diarrhea persists, patients should consult a doctor immediately. Respiratory symptoms like interstitial pneumonia or eosinophilic lung infiltration may occur; if symptoms like fever, cough, or dyspnea develop, the medication should be stopped and treatment obtained. Blood tests may show eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, and leukopenia, so regular blood tests are necessary during long-term administration. Neurological side effects such as cognitive disturbances, behavioral problems, and seizures have been reported in patients with poor kidney function, necessitating careful dose adjustments. Severe skin reactions can occur, so if Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, or symptoms of drug hypersensitivity are suspected, medication should be stopped immediately. Liver and kidney function may also be affected, requiring regular testing and monitoring; if unusual symptoms appear, patients should consult a doctor immediately. Moreover, this medication can cause dysbiosis, including oral thrush or candidiasis, and may lead to bleeding tendencies due to vitamin K deficiency or symptoms of vitamin B complex deficiency, thus symptoms need to be closely monitored. Dizziness may occur when driving or operating machinery, so caution is required. To prevent the development of resistant organisms, sensitivity testing should be performed, and it is recommended to take this medication only for the minimum necessary duration. There may be interactions with other drugs, so when used concurrently with diuretics, aminoglycoside antibiotics, probenecid, antacids, etc., it is important to monitor kidney function and blood concentration carefully. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should use this medication only if the benefits of treatment are determined to outweigh the risks, due to insufficient safety data. Breastfeeding women are advised to discontinue breastfeeding as this medication may be excreted in breast milk. The safety of this medication has not been established in children, especially infants under 2 months of age or premature infants, necessitating special caution. In elderly patients, there is a risk of bleeding due to reduced physiological functions and vitamin K deficiency, hence careful adjustment of dosing and intervals is required, along with close monitoring of their condition. Finally, if this medication is in syrup form, it should be prepared as a suspension and stored in the refrigerator, used within 2 weeks, and thoroughly shaken before use.
