Precautions

This medication is used to inhibit gastric acid secretion with the ingredient cimetidine and is utilized in the treatment of gastric ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease. This medication should not be administered to individuals who have had an allergic reaction to cimetidine or other ingredients. Additionally, it is not used in patients taking the medication dofetilide due to an increased risk of cardiac arrhythmias. Patients with impaired renal function should exercise caution as the drug may remain in the body for an extended period, necessitating a reduction in dosage or an increase in dosing intervals. Patients with poor liver function or a history of drug allergies also need to be cautious. Elderly individuals, children under 19, and patients undergoing hemodialysis require special attention, and it is advised to take the medication after dialysis. This medication may mask symptoms of stomach cancer, so it should only be used after ensuring that cancer is not present. In patients with gastric and duodenal ulcers, if H. pylori bacteria are present, treatment to eliminate the bacteria must be conducted as well. People allergic to the color additive Yellow No. 4 (Tartrazine) should also use caution. While taking this medication, there may be rare occurrences of decreased blood cell counts, liver dysfunction, renal issues, allergic reactions, skin rashes, or neuropsychiatric symptoms. If these symptoms appear, one should consult a doctor immediately, and medication should be discontinued if necessary. Special caution is advised for elderly patients or those with impaired renal function as neuropsychiatric symptoms such as confusion or seizures may be more prevalent. This medication can interact with several other drugs, so patients should inform their doctor or pharmacist if taking anticoagulants like warfarin, antidepressants, antiarrhythmics, calcium channel blockers, antibiotics, antifungals, or diabetes medications. For pregnant or nursing women, the safety of using this medication is not clearly established, so it should only be used under a doctor's judgment if absolutely necessary, and nursing should be discontinued during the medication period if breastfeeding. In children, the safety has not been sufficiently confirmed, so it should only be used when necessary. In elderly patients, adjustments in dosage and intervals are essential due to prolonged retention of the drug in the body due to decreased renal function. In cases of overdose, severe symptoms like respiratory depression may occur; in such situations, emergency care should be sought immediately. Medications should be kept out of children's reach and not transferred to other containers.
