Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used together with diet and exercise to assist in blood sugar control for patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used as monotherapy, and if blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy alone in patients who have no experience with diabetes medication, it can be taken in conjunction with Metformin. Additionally, if blood sugar control is insufficient with monotherapy using sulfonylureas, Metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin, this medication can be used in combination. Even in cases where multiple medications are used, if blood sugar control remains difficult, this medication can be added to enhance treatment effectiveness. This method assists in improving the patient's blood sugar control status.
This medication is administered once daily at a dose of 100 mg, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. Clinical trial results indicate that common side effects when this medication is used alone or in combination with other diabetes medications include upper respiratory infections, headaches, nasopharyngitis, and diarrhea, especially when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, which may increase the risk of hypoglycemia. If hypoglycemic symptoms occur while taking the medication, blood sugar should be checked immediately, and appropriate action should be taken if necessary, and dose adjustment of insulin or sulfonylureas may be needed. This medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy, and it is also advisable for breastfeeding women to avoid taking it. The safety and efficacy in children and adolescents have not been established, hence it should not be used by individuals under 18 years old. For elderly patients, the risk of decreased kidney function is higher, so dosage adjustment and kidney function monitoring are necessary. In case of overdose, general emergency treatment should be provided, and if necessary, hemodialysis can be performed to remove the drug from the system. While drug interactions with this medication are minimal, changes in blood concentration may occur when used with certain drugs, so consultation with a physician or pharmacist is advised.
