Treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive therapy for partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia.
This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also utilized as an adjunctive therapy for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy, with or without secondary generalized symptoms. Additionally, it is applicable for the treatment of fibromyalgia. This drug aids in alleviating neuropathic pain and managing seizures, improving the patient's quality of life.
This medication should be taken orally, divided into two doses per day, without regard to meals. 1. Neuropathic pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: Start with a dose of 150 mg per day, which can be increased to 300 mg per day within 3 to 7 days. If necessary, this can be increased at 7-day intervals to a maximum of 600 mg per day. - Central neuropathic pain: Starting dose 150 mg per day.
The safety and efficacy data for children under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12 to 17 years are insufficient; therefore, use is not recommended.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so if there are any changes in mood or abnormal signs of behavior during treatment, consult a doctor immediately. Do not take this medication if you have allergies to this drug or certain hereditary conditions such as lactose intolerance. Diabetic patients should be aware that weight gain may occur with this medication, and adjustments to blood sugar control medications may be necessary. If symptoms of angioedema, such as swelling of the face or around the mouth, occur, discontinue use immediately and inform medical personnel. Elderly patients may experience increased dizziness or drowsiness while taking this medication; caution is needed to prevent falls or accidents. This medication may cause visual changes such as blurred vision; if such symptoms occur, consult medical personnel. Withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety may occur upon discontinuation, so do not stop taking the medication abruptly and follow the doctor's instructions. Patients with a history of drug abuse may have an increased risk of misuse with this medication, so use it with special caution. Patients with heart or kidney disease should consult a doctor before taking this medication as dose adjustments may be necessary. Caution is advised when taken with opioid analgesics as it may increase central nervous system depression effects. Avoid use during early pregnancy due to the risk of fetal malformations, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding may allow the drug to pass into breast milk, so discuss the use of this medication during breastfeeding with medical personnel. Avoid engaging in dangerous activities such as driving and operating machinery until it is confirmed that no dizziness or drowsiness occurs after taking this medication. Overdose may result in confusion, drowsiness, or seizures; if suspected, seek emergency care immediately. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container. If a rash or severe allergic reaction occurs during use, discontinue the medication immediately and inform medical personnel.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness, severe rash with high fever, blisters, peeling skin, pain in mouth/eyes mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, breathing difficulties accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion of consciousness, visual abnormalities, paralysis, urination.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
Store this medication in a tightly closed container to protect it from air and moisture. It is advisable to maintain a storage temperature between 15 to 30 degrees Celsius.
