Treatment of erectile dysfunction
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
For oral administration. Use in adult men The recommended dose of this drug is 10mg, taken with or without food before anticipated sexual activity. For patients in whom tadalafil 10mg does not produce a sufficient effect, 20 mg may be tried. This drug may be taken at least 30 minutes before sexual activity. The maximum recommended dosing frequency is once daily. Long-term safety following extended daily dosing has not been established, and because the effect of this drug usually lasts more than one day, continuous daily use of this drug is strongly not recommended. [See sections 1. Warnings and 11.1) Pharmacodynamic properties] Use in older men No dosage adjustment is required in older patients. Use in men with renal impairment No dosage adjustment is required in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment. The maximum recommended dose in patients with severe renal impairment is 10mg. [See section 11.2) Pharmacokinetic properties]. Use in men with hepatic impairment The recommended dose of tadalafil tablets is 10mg, taken with or without food before anticipated sexual activity. Since clinical data on the safety of tadalafil tablets in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class C) are limited, if prescribing them, the physician should carefully assess the individual benefit/risk. There are no data on administration of doses higher than 10mg to patients with hepatic impairment. [See section 3. Use with caution in the following patients and section 11.2) Pharmacokinetic properties]. Use in men with diabetes No dosage adjustment is required in patients with diabetes.

Precautions

This medication is indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction; a diagnosis and physical examination by a doctor are essential before use to determine the underlying cause. Since sexual activity can put strain on the heart, patients with cardiovascular diseases should consult their doctor before taking this medication and should stop immediately and notify a hospital if any heart-related symptoms occur during sexual activity. This medication may rarely cause an erection lasting longer than 4 hours (priapism); in such cases, immediate medical attention is necessary, as untreated priapism may lead to tissue damage of the penis and permanent loss of erectile function. Patients taking nitrates or other vasodilators must not use this medication, as it can cause blood pressure to fall to dangerous levels. Patients who have recently suffered severe cardiovascular conditions such as myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, unstable angina, ventricular arrhythmias, or stroke cannot take this medication. If there is a hereditary retinal disease or an allergy to this medication or its components, and its use in combination with other erectile dysfunction treatments is not recommended. Patients with severely impaired kidney or liver function should exercise caution when taking this medication, especially those with very poor liver function should consult their doctor before use. This medication may cause reduced blood pressure when used in combination with alpha-blockers, therefore careful monitoring is necessary if taken together. Certain antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, and other medications may increase the blood concentration of this medication, requiring dose adjustments. This medication is not indicated for use in women, children, or neonates, and its safety in pregnant women has not been established. Dizziness, headache, indigestion, back pain, muscle pain, facial flushing, and other side effects may occur but are usually mild and temporary. If sudden vision or hearing loss occurs, discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention. Serious side effects may occur in case of overdose, so it is important to take the exact dose as prescribed by a doctor, and in case of overdose, visit a medical facility immediately. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is safer to maintain it in its original packaging. It has minimal effects on driving or operating machinery, but dizziness may occur in some individuals, so caution is required when taking it for the first time.
