Trace element supply effect
When providing intravenous nutrition, it supplies essential trace elements to maintain nutritional balance while supporting normal metabolic function and cell health. This is crucial for aiding patient recovery and preventing complications. Therefore, providing intravenous nutrition with appropriately included trace elements improves the patient's nutritional status and enhances therapeutic effects.
Use as directed by a physician, adjusting dosages based on plasma trace element levels as a guide. For patients receiving non-oral nutrition: - Zinc 2.5–4mg per day - Copper 0.5–1.5mg per day - Manganese 0.15–0.8mg per day - Chromium 10–15μg per day For patients with fluid loss from the small intestine: - Additional 12.2mg/L (amount of fluid loss from the small intestine) or 17.1mg/kg (amount of stool)
Pediatric patients - Under 5 years: - 100μg per kg of body weight per day - Premature infants under 3kg: 300μg per kg of body weight per day - Zinc 20μg per kg of body weight per day - Copper 2 to 10μg per kg of body weight per day
This medication should not be injected directly into the vein without dilution, as it may cause phlebitis; thus, it must always be diluted before use. As this medication is a hypotonic solution, it is safest to use it only as a mixed injection solution. If any toxic reactions occur during administration of this medication, administration should be stopped immediately. The amounts of zinc, copper, manganese, and chromium contained in this medication are very small, so toxic symptoms are rarely observed at typical doses. Before injection, the physician must fully assess the patient's health status and required nutrient quantities to determine the proper dosage. Zinc is primarily excreted through the kidneys, so caution is needed for patients with impaired kidney function as zinc may accumulate in the body. Copper and manganese are excreted through bile, so there is a risk of accumulation in patients with biliary obstruction. Manganese is also excreted via pancreatic juice and can be reabsorbed in some parts of the small intestine, requiring caution if there are issues with the excretion pathway. Chromium can affect blood sugar control, so diabetic patients must verify whether they are taking diabetes medications when using this product. The safety of this medication during pregnancy is uncertain, so it should only be administered to pregnant women or those who may become pregnant when the benefits of treatment are considered to outweigh the risks. Excessive doses of zinc can cause serious side effects such as nausea, vomiting, dehydration, dizziness, abdominal pain, drowsiness, movement coordination disorders, and more, so caution is required. Excessive administration of copper can cause symptoms such as collapse, behavioral abnormalities, diarrhea, muscular hypotonicity, photophobia, and peripheral edema, and D-penicillamine is used as an antidote. No specific toxicities from excessive manganese have been reported in patients receiving intravenous nutrition, but caution is still necessary. Excessive chromium can cause nausea, vomiting, ulcers, renal and hepatic dysfunction, and in severe cases, seizures and coma. This medication should not be used without a physician's prescription, and when added to non-oral nutrition solutions, it is advisable to prepare it in a laminar flow environment to maintain sterility.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
