Bowel cleansing effect for pre-colonoscopy preparation
This medication is used to thoroughly cleanse the bowel prior to colon X-ray or endoscopic examinations. It should not be used for the purpose of treating constipation. It helps remove waste products in the intestine to facilitate the smooth progression of the examination.
1. Preparation of the solution: Pour 1 bottle (177mL) of this medication into a mixing container and add water up to the indicated line of the container (approximately 473mL). 2. Administration: Three doses taken in total: - On the evening before the examination, consume the entire prepared solution and then, for 1 hour, fill an empty container with water to the indicated line (approximately 473mL) to drink twice. - On the morning of the examination day, prepare an additional second solution and consume it entirely, and for 1 hour, fill an empty container with water to the indicated line.
This medication should not be used in patients who are hypersensitive to this medication or its components. Administration should also be avoided in patients with suspected or confirmed gastrointestinal obstruction or perforation, as well as those with gastric stasis or intestinal obstruction. It is safest not to use this medication in patients with toxic colitis or toxic megacolon, and those with severe renal dysfunction. Patients with severe dehydration, ascites, or congestive heart failure should also avoid this medication. Caution is advised in patients with severe electrolyte and serum chemistry abnormalities, those with a history of seizures or at high risk for seizures, and those at risk for arrhythmias. Additionally, patients on medications that may affect renal function, those with bowel mucosal ulcers or ischemic colitis, and patients with severe active ulcerative colitis also require careful attention. Special caution is needed for patients with impaired vomiting reflex or those prone to aspiration and reflux. This medication may induce diarrhea after administration, so adequate fluid intake is necessary, and it is advisable to monitor for electrolyte and renal function if vomiting or dehydration symptoms arise. Electrolyte imbalances can lead to serious arrhythmias, seizures, or worsening renal function, necessitating careful management of fluid and electrolyte status. Even in patients without a history of seizures, seizures or loss of consciousness can occur rarely, thus extra caution should be exercised in patients at high risk for seizures. This medication can temporarily elevate uric acid levels, potentially triggering acute attacks in gout patients, necessitating caution. Patients with heart disease or a high risk of arrhythmias should consider undergoing an electrocardiogram prior to administration. Careful administration of this medication is warranted in patients with impaired renal function or those on medications affecting the kidneys, along with thorough monitoring of the patient's status and ensuring adequate fluid intake. This medication may cause ulcers in the bowel mucosa; therefore, concomitant use with irritant laxatives should be avoided, and caution is required in interpreting test results in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. This medication must be thoroughly diluted in water before ingestion; failure to do so may increase the risk of nausea, vomiting, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalances. Drugs taken within 1 hour prior to taking this medication may be washed away by it, potentially interfering with absorption, thus caution is warranted. It should only be administered to pregnant women when the diagnostic benefit outweighs the risks, and it is unknown whether this medication is excreted in breast milk, so it should be used cautiously in breastfeeding women. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so caution is necessary in their use. Elderly patients are at higher risk for diminished liver, kidney, and heart function as well as susceptibility to electrolyte abnormalities, necessitating careful administration.
Severe allergic reactions (hypersensitivity to this medication and its components), risk of arrhythmia, seizures, serious edema or urination abnormalities (severe renal impairment, decreased glomerular filtration rate), dehydration, arrhythmias, seizures, renal impairment due to fluid and electrolyte abnormalities, severe skin reactions (bowel mucosal ulcers and ischemic colitis, active ulcerative colitis), respiratory issues (tendency for aspiration or reflux), liver abnormalities (acute elevation of uric acid).
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
