Treatment of complicated skin and soft tissue infections, secondary infections of chronic respiratory diseases, etc.
This medication is effective against various bacterial infections. It is primarily used for the treatment of complicated skin and soft tissue infections, secondary infections of chronic bronchitis or chronic lung diseases, and pneumonia caused by community-acquired pathogens. It is also effective for urinary tract infections such as acute pyelonephritis, cystitis, prostatitis, as well as gonococcal and non-gonococcal urethritis, and epididymitis. It is utilized to treat bacterial dysentery and enteritis caused by intestinal bacteria, infections of the uterus and adnexa in women, and inflammation around the eyes and corneal ulcers. In addition, it is used to treat various infections such as otitis media, sinusitis, periodontitis, cholecystitis, and cholangitis. However, due to the characteristics of fluoroquinolone antibiotics, there may be serious adverse reactions, and it should only be used when there are no other treatment options available for certain infections. Therefore, this medication is used effectively to treat various bacterial infections.
Typically, the adult dosage for levofloxacin is 100 mg taken orally 2 to 3 times a day. For severe cases or insufficient response, 200 mg may be administered 3 times a day. Dosage adjustments may be made according to age and symptoms.
This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic and should be used with caution as it may lead to tendon-related disorders such as tendonitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system abnormalities. If serious side effects are suspected during the course of treatment, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and it should not be used in patients with myasthenia gravis as symptoms may worsen. Furthermore, it is limited to use in certain infections such as acute bacterial rhinosinusitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, simple urinary tract infections, and acute otitis media. In elderly patients, those with impaired renal function, or those taking corticosteroids, the risk of tendon rupture may increase, so co-administration should be avoided. This drug can affect the central nervous system and may pose a risk of seizures; caution should be exercised in patients with a history of epilepsy or brain diseases. It should not be administered to patients with allergic reactions to the drug or a history of tendonitis or tendon rupture with this drug or similar drugs, individuals under 18 years of age, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and those with epilepsy. Patients with severe renal impairment, cerebrovascular disease, seizure history, elderly patients, diabetic patients, or those with specific blood disorders or myasthenia gravis should be administered with caution, and those with a history of aneurysms or heart valve disease should also be monitored carefully. This medication may rarely cause shock, severe allergic reactions, central nervous system abnormalities (insomnia, anxiety, hallucinations, etc.), heart rhythm abnormalities, liver and kidney function impairments, blood disorders, gastrointestinal disturbances, musculoskeletal abnormalities, and severe skin reactions. During administration, exposure to strong sunlight or artificial ultraviolet light should be avoided to prevent photosensitivity reactions, and caution should be observed when driving or operating machinery due to dizziness or drowsiness. This drug may interact with other medications, particularly anticoagulants, hypoglycemic agents, antacids, and theophylline, so consultation with healthcare providers is necessary when co-administering. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, nor should it be used in children and adolescents. Elderly patients may experience increased drug concentrations due to impaired renal function, necessitating dosage adjustment and monitoring for side effects. In case of overdose, central nervous system symptoms and heart abnormalities may occur, requiring immediate medical attention. It is important to consult a doctor or pharmacist promptly if any unusual symptoms occur during treatment.
