Treatment of respiratory (bronchitis, pneumonia) and urinary (cystitis, urethritis) infections
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
Adults and children aged 12 and older or weighing 40 kg or more are administered Amoxicillin/Clavulanate Potassium 250 mg/125 mg orally three times a day at 8-hour intervals. In cases of severe respiratory infections, the dosage can be increased to 500 mg/125 mg. In cases of renal impairment, dosing should be adjusted according to creatinine clearance. - Creatinine clearance 10-30 mL/min: administer 250-500 mg of Amoxicillin every 12 hours orally. - If creatinine clearance is 10 mL/min or lower, administer 250 mg of Amoxicillin every 24 hours, ensuring not to exceed the dose. - For children: reduce the dosage following the same method.
Child dose
Children under 12 years old or weighing less than 40 kg are administered 250 mg/125 mg orally three times a day at 8-hour intervals. In cases of renal impairment, the dosage should be reduced accordingly.

Precautions
This drug is a beta-lactam antibiotic and should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to this medication's components or to penicillin-class drugs. Patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia should be cautious, as the risk of rash may increase. Patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice may experience a recurrence of symptoms, so careful administration is required. Patients with impaired liver function or severe renal impairment may have elevated drug concentrations, necessitating dosage adjustments and administration interval modifications. Patients with allergic tendencies or symptoms of bronchial asthma or urticaria should be cautious due to the risk of hypersensitivity reactions. Elderly patients or those in poor general condition may show a bleeding tendency due to vitamin K deficiency, requiring monitoring. This medication may cause gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain; if severe diarrhea or abdominal pain occurs, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Abnormal liver values or, rarely, hepatitis and cholestatic jaundice may occur, so liver function tests are necessary with long-term use. Skin rashes, itching, and in severe cases, serious skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome may occur, so discontinue use immediately if symptoms appear. Rarely, blood tests may show leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, among other abnormalities, so testing is advisable if abnormal symptoms occur. Central nervous system adverse reactions such as headache, dizziness, and seizures may occur rarely, and there is a higher risk of seizures in patients with impaired kidney function. As this drug is excreted via the kidneys, patients with poor renal function require regular kidney function tests. Use of antibiotics may disturb intestinal bacterial balance, leading to candidiasis or stomatitis; consult a doctor if abnormal symptoms appear. This medication may induce vitamin K deficiency, so patients with a bleeding tendency should be especially cautious. Avoid use during the first three months of pregnancy, and pregnant or breastfeeding women must consult a doctor before administration. This drug is recommended only for children aged 12 and older or those weighing 40 kg or more; dosing in elderly patients must be adjusted with caution. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms, renal function abnormalities, seizures may occur, so notify healthcare personnel immediately and receive appropriate treatment. Store this medication in a cool, dry place below 25 degrees Celsius, and be sure to inform your healthcare provider of any other medications you are taking due to potential interactions.
