This drug is effective against various bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Shigella, and Salmonella, and is used for treating several infections. The main indications include respiratory infections excluding acute bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, ear, nose, and throat infections, bacterial prostatitis, and various urinary tract infections. Additionally, it is used for treating gonococcal cervicitis and urethritis, gastrointestinal infections, bile duct infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections. It is also used for some gynecological infections as well as peritonitis and conjunctivitis, and since it is a fluoroquinolone, it should only be used when no other treatment options are available for some mild infections. This drug helps effectively treat various bacterial infections.

Precautions

This drug can cause serious side effects, such as tendonitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system effects, therefore caution is required. In particular, patients with myasthenia gravis may worsen their symptoms and should avoid using this medication. This drug is used limitedly for the treatment of acute bacterial sinusitis, acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, simple urinary tract infections, and acute otitis media. Elderly patients, those with poor renal function, and patients with central nervous system disorders should use this drug with caution. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, children and adolescents under 18 years of age, patients with a history of hypersensitivity to this drug, should not use it. While taking this medication, exposure to strong sunlight or artificial ultraviolet light should be avoided, and if symptoms such as skin rash or itching appear, usage should be discontinued immediately. This drug can cause fluctuations in blood sugar levels, thus diabetic patients should monitor their blood sugar closely. There are many drug interactions with this medication, especially when taken with theophylline, warfarin, tizanidine, ketoprofen, etc., so it should be taken following consultation with a healthcare professional. If symptoms of pain, inflammation, or tendon abnormalities appear during treatment, discontinue the drug immediately and consult a physician. Caution is required during driving or machine operation, and use should be discontinued if seizures or central nervous system symptoms occur. In the case of overdose, appropriate emergency measures are needed to prevent kidney damage, and it should be stored out of reach of children. It is advisable to store this drug away from direct sunlight and ultraviolet light.
