Precautions

This medication affects the balance of water and sodium in the body, so particularly elderly patients or patients with certain conditions should limit fluid intake to the point of thirst. This medication should not be administered to patients with hypersensitivity to its components, those with severe heart failure, severely impaired kidney function, or those on diuretics. It is also restricted to use in nocturia patients with normal blood pressure only. Caution is advised when using this medication in patients with hypertension, chronic kidney disease, pregnant women, children, and the elderly. Patients with fluid and electrolyte imbalances or at risk of increased intracranial pressure should also be monitored closely. Serious side effects such as hyponatremia and water intoxication may occur; therefore, if symptoms such as headache, nausea, weight gain, or seizures arise, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical consultation should be sought. During treatment, strict limitation of fluid intake is required, especially within 1 hour before administration and 8 hours after dosing. If kidney function tests are to be performed, this fluid intake limitation may need to be extended. This medication may interact with other medications, so when taken with tricyclic antidepressants, diuretics, corticosteroids, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, serum sodium levels and electrolyte status should be monitored periodically. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should be administered this medication cautiously, considering the risk of uterine contractions, and breastfeeding should be avoided since the drug may be passed into breast milk. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as headache, nausea, seizures, and loss of consciousness may occur, and in such cases, discontinuation of therapy and diuretics or fluid restriction may be necessary. This medication does not affect the ability to drive or operate machinery, thus does not interfere significantly with daily life.
