Treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, reflux esophagitis, and excessive gastric acid secretion (such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome)
This medication is used for duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, moderate to severe gastroesophageal reflux disease, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and other conditions caused by excessive gastric acid secretion. It helps to treat ulcers formed in the stomach and duodenum and protects the esophageal mucosa damaged due to excessive gastric acid. It also controls diseases characterized by excessive gastric acid secretion to alleviate symptoms. This drug reduces pain and discomfort associated with gastric acid and promotes mucosal healing. Therefore, it is effective in improving and treating the symptoms of these diseases.
If oral administration of pantoprazole is inappropriate, reconstitute 1 vial of this drug (equivalent to 40 mg of pantoprazole) with 10 mL of normal saline and administer by direct intravenous injection, or mix this solution with 100 mL of normal saline or 5 % dextrose solution and administer intravenously over 2∼15 minutes. As soon as oral administration becomes possible, discontinue intravenous pantoprazole and switch to oral pantoprazole 40 mg. 1. Duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, moderate ∼ severe reflux esophagitis Administer 1 vial of this drug (equivalent to 40 mg of pantoprazole) by intravenous injection once daily. 2. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other pathological gastric acid hypersecretory conditions - Start with an initial dose of 80 mg per day, then increase or decrease the dose according to measurements of gastric acid secretion. - Doses of 80 mg or more should be divided into 2 doses per day. - Temporary increases to 160 mg or more are possible, but should be used only for as long as necessary to achieve adequate acid control. - When rapid acid control is needed, an initial dose of 2 × 80 mg reduced acid output to the target range (< 10 mEq/h) within one hour in most patients. ◯ In patients with severe hepatic impairment, the daily dose should be reduced to 20 mg of pantoprazole. ◯ In older adults or patients with renal impairment, the daily dose should not exceed 40 mg of pantoprazole.
This drug should not be administered to certain patients. It should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to this drug or its components, or those with a history of allergic reactions, and those currently taking certain antiviral medications. Various adverse reactions may occur while using this medication. Symptoms such as indigestion, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, skin rash, liver function abnormalities, myalgia, and depression have been reported, so if any abnormal symptoms occur, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. In particular, long-term use (more than 1 year) can lead to electrolyte imbalances such as hypomagnesemia, so caution is warranted. Since this drug suppresses gastric acid secretion, it may increase the risk of bacterial overgrowth in the gastrointestinal tract, so if diarrhea persists, testing for Clostridium difficile infection should be conducted. Dizziness or vision disturbances may occur, so caution is advised during activities that require alertness, such as driving or operating machinery. It is best to avoid use during the first trimester of pregnancy, and breastfeeding women should not take this drug. There is insufficient experience with this drug in children and adolescents under 18 years of age, so its use is not recommended. The prepared solution of this drug should be used within 12 hours prior to administration, and any solution that is discolored or cloudy should not be used.
