This medication is used for patients with hypercholesterolemia, particularly those with primary hypercholesterolemia and familial hypercholesterolemia. It is administered as an adjunct when dietary adjustments and exercise alone are insufficient, lowering total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels, which slows the progression of atherosclerosis. It is also used in pediatric patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and helps reduce Apo-B protein levels. It can be used as an adjunct to dietary management for patients with dysbetalipoproteinemia. This drug contributes to reducing the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and vascular re-intervention in adult patients at high risk for cardiovascular diseases. Overall, this medication is used to improve blood lipid levels and protect cardiovascular health.
