This medication is used as an adjunct to diet in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia who cannot be controlled with diet and exercise. It is also used in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia alongside other lipid-lowering therapies to help lower LDL cholesterol levels. In patients with hypercholesterolemia, it reduces total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol to delay the progression of atherosclerosis. It is also used as an adjunct to diet in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 who meet specific criteria. It helps in the treatment of primary dysbetalipoproteinemia and contributes to reducing the risk of stroke and myocardial infarction in high-risk cardiovascular disease patients with elevated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels. Therefore, this drug is effectively used for the reduction of hypercholesterolemia and cardiovascular disease risk.
